*watched stream gets about 5-6 seconds, stream stops. Eventual crash?!*
Yeah, I don't think this is working right for me. It technically works, and clicking around the "progress bar" and where it says live along the bottom, causes it to resume play, but again, stops shortly without any message, fanfare, etc. I even managed to crash my client. I was clicking around with the live button and progress (?) bar when it was stopped to try to get it going again, and my Steam just died. I also once managed to get it in an ever-present state of "Loading" (the screen says as such), by pausing and playing.

Definitely an interesting feature, but one that's putting out about as much as I'd expect from a Beta.

I also get 5 seconds of video, then buffering, then 5 more seconds. The streamer dropped his bitrate as much as he could as well

Same here. About five seconds of streaming then it simply stops

I'm having this issue as well. I know my upload speed is not great, but I could stream on twitch using OBS on lower settings just fine. The stream will start, say someone's watching, stream for a few seconds, and then stop and repeat the process over again.

Has anyone else managed to crash it like I did? I didn't get any sort of error message before or after; Steam just instantly closed.

No crash for me, it is simply stopping the stream after five seconds. I can instantly resume it only for it to stop again five seconds later :(

Yup, I tried some gaming in streaming and yeah, the stream stops every 5 seconds and also, i'm "unable to join chat".

Chat was consistently working for me, strange. But someone else - actually, the broadcaster herself - mentioned it was not.

I tested the broadcasting too and when I watched my friend (Who was streaming a game) it stopped after 14-15 seconds, each time. I don't know what can cause this but since it's a beta it probably due to this : "For the time being, concurrent viewing may be limited as the beta is scaled up to support the broader audience." (Citation from the News of the beta broadcasting update).

After a bit of testing, I found that doing it from Chrome gave marginally better results, with my friend's Isaac Rebirth stream. It was perfect on a random Team Fortress 2 stream in both the Steam client and Chrome, though the former was a bit laggier. So it seems it depends on the game.

SOME1 CAN HELP HOW TO TRY THIS NEW BETA OF STEAM?
WHAT IS THE STEP TO GET THE STREAM FROM A FRIEND!
Sir System Error Dec 2, 2014 @ 1:13pm
@Alex: When you load up Steam, click "Steam", "Settings", then look at Beta Participation. Opt-in!!

Another thing to say: the joining/leaving messages get really annoying on any large stream

Same problem here.
Another one on the freeze train. I'm watching a friend and I get a couple of seconds, a freeze, then a couple more seconds before it stops completely and I need to refresh.
