Can't stop broadcast? Solution!
steam: Alternatively, at any time you can press "Stop" from the Broadcast panel in the Steam Overlay.

Where is this "stop" button? There is no stop button. Furthermore, if there were one, it should be on the same page as the broadcast. The user should not have to go to a seperate page.

Why can't i modify the privacy settings of my broadcast once i've initially selected one?

------------

OK! Finally figured out how to turn it off. For anyone having this same problem, this is how you solve it.

Go to the desktop's steam launcher.
Click "steam" top left.
Go to "settings", then "broadcasting".

From there you can edit it.

Personally, I will never use this steam broadcast application. A simple "stop" button doesn't exist as steam claims it does. it has lag/minimizing issues. It has nowhere near the popularity and diversity of twitch.

I would never use this application again especially because their "how to end a broadcast" walkthrough was vary vague. If i were doing the coding, my priority would be to make sure there is a "start" and "end" button for users before anything else. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
stop button is positioned nicely on the steam overlay like it says you dont have to go to settings or a separate page lmao

SHIFT+TAB opens overlay, right there you see the stop button, its pressable

you need at least one viewer for it to show,so watch your own game and then you can stop it!

i assumed he had the broadcast running already and thats why he wants to stop it

it was running and i had 5 viewers at one point. asked them where the stop button is but they just left.

there was no stop button. if there is now, then steam saw my post and took action asap.

since they left it automatically stops so you dont have to, hence the stop button disappearing
and yes its been there since day 1 of broadcasting, they cant implment something with no way to stop it

i understand you feel insulted but i don't see why you post here if you haven't experienced the problem.

trying to explain there is no problem cause you even said the viewers left which automatically stops the broadcast so of course there is no stop button

also why would you insist on looking on a way to stop it when it isnt even running (see above^)

i just dont want you to insult valve by saying they havent implemented a stop button when they have had it in since DAY ONE

but theres no way to make people realize something sometimes so i guess ill stop trying to, meh

see if people are watching, the stream is running you will have a stop button
once people leave, BOOM, stream stops and no need for stop button anymore :3
automatic FTW

as the AWNULD would say https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRWhxgJ0gF4
THERE IS NO PROBLEM XD

reading further in the OP:
you dont need to go to the desktop to go to steam settings, you can use the steam overlay to modify privacy settings for the broadcast, my good friend orumov has my back on this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrQBvUCENes
USE THE OVERLAY THATS WHAT ITS FOR!

When you have zero viewers, it isn't broadcasting. You're not sending any data upstream.

If you go to the community hub of the game you're playing and click on the broadcasts tab, you'll find yourself listed there, but you'll notice the thumbnail will be Steam's default placeholder of "Live Broadcast - Please Stand By". If someone clicks on it, then you'll start broadcasting.

Under Steam - Settings / Broadcasting, you'll find a checkbox named "Show Upload Stats". Check that and it will display the amount of data you're transferring right under the number of viewers on the top-right of the screen. When viewers are zero, you'll see 0 kbps 0 FPS.
