Issue with colors (chroma separation?)

I'm getting a strange issue that seems to happen for any game I broadcast. The colors seems to be separated and the image ends up being grey scale pretty much. See examples here -

Any clue what could be causing this? I'm playing at 2560x1080, could this be related? I've tried various bitrates but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

I'm getting this issue too. It just happened today. It worked fine two days ago. Playing around with the settings didn't change anything.

1920x1080. I'm on a dual monitor setup but it shouldn't make a difference. It seems to only affect my console broadcasts. I'm wonder if the december 10th update had anything to do with it. Capture card to obs looks fine but once it goes through steam, colors just start separating.

I am getting the same problem with my broadcast and when viewing my friends broadcasting. This was not happening in November 2015.

Are you guys who are experiencing issues opted-in to the Steam beta? I've been having this issue since at least the end of November (didn't test before that). Wondering if the bug was recently introduced to the stable version of Steam, which would explain people now having problems.

i have the same issue, 2560x1080. playing DiRT rally and wanted to show the guys at work how great the game is. Colour all faded as if i was playing in Black & White with a tinge of yellow. Had a little play with setting in broadcasting and in game. discovered its because i had my ratio settings at 2560x1080 that was causing the issue. Was able to stream in full colour at 1920x1080. (will raise this with steam)

I can confirm that the broadcaster changing their game settings to 1920 x 1080 instead of higher worked. I wonder if they will fix this?

Sorta glad I am not the only one having this issue. Running 21:9 @3440X1440 here. OBS streams to twitch perfectly... so not sure whats up with this. Tried different resolutions.. new drivers everything I Can think of ..

I fixed my issue kinda. See gaming on a 21:9 was causing the issue. if I drop the resolution down to 1440P. full color is back., I guess 3440X1440 was the issue

Can confirm that this is an issue. Seems to occur when in Big Picture mode or when the resolution is not a perfect 4:3/16:9 standard. Maybe points to a video codec problem? Which if the case, might just mean that Valve really needs to either pick a different codec that can handle unusual resolutions, or scale the video to a proper resolution before encoding.

At the very least, myself and a friend have been able to "fix" this issue by either resizing the player window or changing resolution, but this shouldn't be necessary.

Having the same problem in every game at 21:9 (2560 x 1080); hope valve fixes this because I surely am not playing at 16:9 just so that friends can occasionally watch..

i know this is a late reply but i found out my friend was streaming in windowed mode and when she went full screen the colors went back where they were supposed to. if nothing else works for you or anyone else, check and see if they are streaming the game in windowed mode, and ask to swap over to full screen if it isnt a problem. hth!
