Car skins go in the folders for cars.

Let's say you edited the black trucks skin - pickupnew - then you'd find that at:

State of Decay\Game\objects\vehicles\pickupnew\pickupnew.dds

Same for other files, for other vehicles.

Drop your DDS on top of that and overwrite it, then it will be your new one. As long as you matched the locations of parts, if it was custom, then it should match up with the UV.

The reason they have built in sockets is the way they designed things in the mesh. When we take away the built in components to allow upgrades, it then seems to plant in the mesh for the normal workshop which dumps it in the way of everything...square peg in a round hole, if you will :)

I find it highly illogical too that the Snyder warehouse would be the place that couldn't handle fixing cars, haha.

Blender works for modelling, I've done it and it works. CHR exports are the part I'm working on now. Free modelling program.

Still messing with character models, can't get them to port out of Blender. Sigh.

The only thing we've gotten working so far is HexEditors, and those are what people use to make those.

The core idea is that the hex editor doesn't have to operate on a level that we can read and therefore it can scour the file and handle the raw numbers we figure out as the ones that are needed.

I've been working on making meshes/skins work in a fully customized way and haven't worked on the BMD files since around the original post we're talking on, haha.

Yep it's the same as I talked about with the face skins. It's an additive from the engine itself. I'm almost done with th ebase then I want to look into the char mods more for issues like this. The core thing is getting the engine to let me look at it.

If I understand what you're saying you did then I'll point out that when you're changing the size of the meshes then you're moving around where the components fall in the UV Map that lays over the meshes and thus gets out of sync with the seaming. I'd be curious to see what you did and the visual result. I didn't do an enormous amount of testing to coax things out but it appeared that it was the diffuse + spec + fresnel, etc. that were causing any oddities in the core texture versus the engine result. Since I can't get it all to pull up in the engine, I can't see what the settings are. I'll be working on that after I'm done with a basic version of my base mod.

Also, if I understand the mechanics of the files based on the CryEngine mechanics then the Alpha is particularly used for the specialized texture layers in the engine, like Dirt Layers, for example.

My best guess, since this happens with the textures for the big objects too, is that it is from the settings made in CryEngine - there are additional textures and lighting effects that get set in there that we - as of yet - don't have access to. It comes out lighter, and more orange, basically.
