First black metal bands in the USSR / Russia

Преисподняя (Preispodnyaya, "Hell" - in Eng. translation) - one of pioneers of black metal in Russia. The band was formed in the USSR in 1987. Started as a thrash band, then they got more into black metal.

They also played some Venom stuff live, "In League With Satan", for example.

The band split up in 1994. For all their career they didn't record a studio album, its only some live records were saved.

Also. Another interesting band, I know them longer than Преисподняя. Its name is Фаланга (Falanga or "Phalanx" in Eng. translation, "Abadonna" - later) and they played in speed-thrash-black metal style. Formed in 1984 near Moscow and split up in early 90s. Inspired by such bands as Venom, Bathory, Backwater, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Destruction, Possessed and Kreator.

They have a compilation demo tape, this is a compilation of tracks recorded by the band during 1986-1989.
