March 2016 Status Update
Hello RnL community! Tim from the RnL team here. We have recently rebuilt our team and started rebuilding our community as well when we noticed you and your group. Thank you for keeping the RnL spirit alive over here!

As most of you guys know, we are remaking RnL in the UE4 engine as a standalone game. We started with recreating La Fiere in the UE4 Engine.

Initially we started with a rough blockout of La Fiere, where we also tested our gameplay setup, like capturing and spawning. Players of the mod will be familiar with this map and the diverse gameplay that it provides.
Recently, we've finished the block-out, and we've been replacing all of the work-in-progress blocks with proper buildings. Old and new players alike might be happy to hear that the layout of the map is mostly the same, but we've been looking some more at original photographs and maps to make sure that La Fiere is as authentic as can be, while maintaining a balanced gameplay(...)

I feel like some of the Foliage, like the leaves on the trees in the screenshots appear really strange to what we're used to in Source. Are those placeholder?

Because as you know sometimes you are behind foliage and need to look through the visible cracks in the leaves or foliage to see and hit other players

Yes, indeed Mikeo, the hedgerows and several of the trees are the assets we used in Source. They're currently in use as placeholders, until we had the time to replace them. That said, it might be a while and you might see these in the first release or two, but they're on our to-do list of things to remake :)

Ahh, that one. It's a few weeks old and I hadn't had time to set up a foliage shader - so it used lots of alpha for various layers of foliage with self shadowing and ended up black in several places in the end. We have fixed that now :)

Will the source version still be available to download? I'm sure that some people would love to see how greatly the game either changed or prefer the source engine.

We'll probably not promote the Source installer anymore, but we're not going to take the download for that version down, no.

In the beta version, it allowed users to create their own missions and skins, which was a really great asset for realism units (such as the 502nd PIR I used to be in). Will this feature still be available?

Yes, we are planning to make the level editor available and - within limits - also allow custom skins. I cannot say for sure how that will work currently, as we have to avoid cheating with bright glowing shaders, of course.

But genereally, we're aware of how important the community driven customization is for us and the game :)

I actually used to play this game a long time ago and I spent a hell of a lot of time playing it. I thought it died out. I can't wait to play it again.
So is the new release in Unreal 4 going to be on Steam or just a seperate client?

unfortunately no one is playing rnl anymore :(
there are just 4 server online. but want find no other players there.

maybe the remake will give rnl a further push?!?
