Razer Kraken Mic Issues, please help

Alright, after my Carcharias finally died on me, i saw this nice and shiny new Kraken. Beautiful padding, feels amazing, bass is bumping, (the sound is a bit too bassy but I like that) the build feels nice and high quality. Now after all this is amazing, Razer did the stupidest decision, they made a splitter for computers so you have 1 output split into an input and an output. Anyways, when I plug my headset into my computer I have to talk with the microphone in my mouth to even get a small sound. Mic volume all the way up and boosted +30 db. It works fine on my desktop but on my laptop (which I use 95% of the time because I am a college student) it has this low volume issue. Is there any way to fix this? My drivers are up to date, I even tried Microsoft default audio drivers and it made no difference. I really don't want to go back to the carcharias after this Mic, it is the same cost and feels like I would be downgrading in sound quality, build quality, and comfort (as well as style).

Just got these headphones today after owning the Razer Carcharias (Great headset for the price - and I could actually hear my music). Has no one owned a decent pair of headphones for those who reviewed this product? The sound is so washed out it makes my music sound like low-frequency garbage - even my EDM sounds like shit. Where are the levels? There's only one with these headphones apparently.

Then, like so many others, the microphone just won't work even though my Carcharias also had a splitter that worked absolutely fine. How did they manage to fuck up a headset this bad?

Anyways, I just got home with these and after 30 minutes of figuring this out and being completely disturbed by the sound quality - am immediately returning these. What a joke Razer.

Edit: Just tested out my Carcharias in their half broken state and it sounds so much fucking better than the Kraken. Christ.

Edit 2: Traded it in for the Black Shark. While not the greatest sound quality - it is leagues over the Kraken. I'm really glad the store let me return those.

dude i have the kraken and the sound quality is great. just the mic does not work :(. the sound is fine for me.

He's kinda right, the sound quality isn't flat like the Carcharias, it's more tuned to the bass (Kinda like trying to copy Beats), it isn't necessarily a bad thing as the Kraken Pro actually had bass compared to the Carcharias, which is something I look for in a headset as it makes games more fun.

After I managed to fix my problem with the microphone I didnt have any other problems.

Absolutely true! Solved the problem with the sound volume by reinstalling Windows. Now enjoy excellent sound.

Same here, I have the problem on my high-end Desktop though :3

I had Siberia v2 which also has a splitter and it worked perfectly, but Kraken Pro's mic don't work properly(not even close) but the sound is great.

E: I figured it out... I must plug them behind my computer (in to the mobo) and for some reason it wont work in the frontmic. D:

As i've said numerous times, it's the sound card, only full fledged ones (like the ones found on your motherboard in the back) are able to handle it efficiently, most laptops (which this headset is designed for with the collapsible cups and shit) are inable to handle it, which sucks.

Well it sounds strange... But I make a backup of the entire Windows 7 using Acronis True Image than install Windows 8. Do not like it. Restored old Windows 7. The problem is gone... Mystic.

hey i have a full fledged one, that is on my motherboard thats the one it is not working on.

I exchanged them out for a Razer Tiamat 2.2,but I didn't like the shitty mic quality, then changed to the Logitech G430s but at the moment their surround sound drivers are completely fucked up, so honestly I can say, I have no clue.

I was having the same problem with my new laptop as well. I have a high end desktop with NO additional sound card, I just ran the audio straight out of the motherboard. I recently bought a new laptop and it didn't work. I was having to shout just to get it to register. After reading this thread I decided to buy a USB SOUND CARD off of amazon. I'll put a link to the one I bought at the bottom. When it came in the mail, I shut my laptop off, plugged in the usb sound card, then plugged in my headphones. Booted. And I tested through steam and Skype and it freaking worked! Crystal clear just like on my desktop. I have a Asus G46VW laptop and I'm pretty sure that it will work with other asus gaming laptops. I think it is the splitter not working with sound cards on laptops and additional sound cards. I have yet to try changing the splitter! That might also be a fix. Who knows.

Thanks for the help Beefy. I unfortunately gave up and returned the Kraken back to Amazon and got a new headset, but this should indeed work because it was an issue with the Asus sound card. Glad there is a cheap solution.

yea just get a usb sound adapter thats what i got and it works to me.
