Can't Open .pack file on 5.2.3
Hey guys, long time low-key modder here. I mostly just make tweaks to common mods/slight balance patches. Normal update procedure for me is to download the core mod I am working off of let's say SFO, extract the table I want and replace the old version with new one + changes. Now I can't even open basic .pack files. While WH2 is selected and I try to open a .pack (let's say "One Turn Technologies" by Slavyk it will open up the file, but when I tree down to the table it will instantly crash.

I'm currently trying to restore a mod that simply vanished from Steam (along with the author who was a steam friend), but I can't even open the tables within the file. It had just been updated for the latest patch.

That's quite the odd problem you are having. I can't recall ever seeing PFM crash without displaying an error message and having downloaded both of the mods you just mentioned, they both open and can be browsed in PFM for me.

Since you aren't receiving error messages and things work for me, I'll just list the most common problems I can think of that could possibly cause your problem and possible solutions:
  1. A bad .NET installation. This is the oldest and most common cause of inconsistent errors that don't behave like normal errors. The fix is to reinstall the newest version of the .NET framework available. Sometimes it is also necessary to uninstall the old installation of the .NET framework first before installing the newest version is reinstalled due to oddities with the interaction between the installer and existing versions.
  2. A bad PFM installation. I've seen people who were missing dll files from their PFM installation folder before or who found that reinstalling PFM elsewhere on their computer fixed it. These people don't tend to get as far as you and tend to have error messages, but it may be worth trying.
  3. The non-solution. I don't like recommending it since it is a competing piece of software, but since your problem isn't telling us anything about why it is happening and I can't reproduce it, you could try downloading RPFM, which I hear some people prefer.
