Crying Suns review
One Grumpy Russian score - a surprising 7.5/10, this game is a rare gem, as rare as glimpse of conscience in Stalin’s eyes.

Now in a bit more detail.
I personally dislike ‘pixel art’ games, I mean, I did not buy RTX 3070 to play this, or so I thought…
This game somehow captivates you, the pixel art of this space saga is reminiscent of Startrack and Warhammer 40K gloomy pace gothic. The story, is well written, it has some depth to it and is not a mere background of words that we often see nowadays. The fighting element of the game is real time hexagon-based strategy with rock-paper-scissors mechanics and some spaceship weapons to add some depth. The key aspect of the game though is exploration and resource management based on random events and decision making. Effectively the journey in this game is linear. You need to get from point A to point B on the star map to advance to the next chapter (and defeat a boss at the end of each segment), you have a degree of influence on your path as you can select your path through the local systems, but you largely can’t go back into previously visited systems as they become hostile.

In summary the game is well done, fights are simple once you figure out the formula and enemy equipment, so unless you badly mismanage your resources you’ll win it and enjoy few evening with this game.
