Unable to register new character when joining server
Me and friend are playing LAN. I have created server and am able to successfully join and create character and run around balmora. But on my friends end, after joining the server it asks to enter name for the character and once he does there is no option to enter a password. It simply says in the chat box in top left that he has 60 seconds to register. But there is nothing more that he can do. After 60 seconds it kicks him out of server. No matter what name he tries to use to create new character it still is just blank and only shows the starting screen when you first login. If he presses ESC it allows him to run around the location of the starting screen but he doesn't actually have a character made and can't open inventory or anything. Please someone help me figure out what the problem is.

I have Rebirth mod installed and that's it really. Not heavily modded at all. And it works fine on my end with us both having exact same mods and datafiles active. So I'm not sure what could be wrong.

Are you both using the same version of TES3MP? Where did you two download TES3MP from?

Since you created a server, did you check server logs to see if there are any lines that could tell you what is going on?
You could try starting server again and looking at the output while your friend logs in. That way you will be able to pinpoint the issue more effectively.

Also, you could try to log in with your character from his computer just to see what happens.

Yes both of us using the same version. Downloaded it from the link here in this group on the main page. .7.0 version using the github link provided here in this group.

I'm not exactly an expert with this so I don't really have any idea what to look for when it comes to server logs. I was able to pull open the latest one from today in my Documents. I can post it below

This is everything from that log pertaining to the time when my friend joined and created his test character of "Fred" I don't know if anything there is wrong. But this is as far is it goes for his character creation in the log. In the actual game on his end there was no option on the screen to enter a password after her entered the name. The only GUI on the screen after entering name is the server chat box on top left that says 60 seconds to register.

We have tried creating any number of characters but it doesn't ever give the option to enter password so there is no way to actually finish the login process and fully "register" him as a player

I will be honest that the way I set this up for us to save time with installation on his computer is by simply copying the main game folders for both morrowind and the openmw mp from the C drive on my computer and the openmw folder from My Games in Documents onto a flash drive and then transferring it to his computer. I have the GOG version of morrowind so I didn't need to worry about any kind of copy protection. I just wanted to see if we could actually get this multiplayer to work before he purchased a copy of the game for himself officially. I don't know if that is what is causing the problem somehow? So there shouldn't be any discrepencies between our game versions because its literally the exact same files on each computer

It sounds like some kind of firewall issue. Try joining a public server together and see if you get a similar problem.
Devin Mar 11, 2019 @ 4:18pm
Just tested joining a public server. It has the same problem. So you think that must mean that its a firewall issue on his pc? He has windows 10 while I have windows 7 on my pc so I wouldn't be surprised if there is some bs security issue because of win 10. I just added tes3mp.exe to be allowed through windows firewall on his pc and temporarily disabled the antivirus program but it still has the same problem not being able to register the character. Is there another way to go about allowing the program through win 10 security? I think I covered all bases but I'm not exactly an expert.

Can you check that you allowed UDP traffic through the firewall?
You could temporarily disable whole firewall, just to see if character creation starts working.
Then instantly set firewall back to enabled. If character creation worked, then you know the issue is caused by something in firewall. Otherwise you try to explore other possibilities.

I just allowed UDP traffic through firewall on win 10 and it still didn't work. Tried completely disabling all firewall and still nothing working. Is there any other possibility of what could cause this to happen? Surely I must not be the only one who is experiencing this problem?

I've had this problem before with pretty much exactly the same load order. Can't exactly remember what I did to fix it unfortunately, it was a while ago. Check that you've done all the port-forwarding correctly. Copying over the games files should be fine, but download tes3mp again and run the OpenMW wizard on both computers. After that, make sure the tes3mp executable's are allowed through both of your firewalls, not just the ports they use. Could also try copying your character's profile and rename it and and the username and password inside it to something else and have your friend try using that character.

The character used shouldn't have anything to do with it at all.
Ghost Mar 11, 2019 @ 10:03pm
In windows 7, use the search bar and type 'allow a program through windows firewall' or you can go to the Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall > Allowed Programs. Change settings if you can't tick or untick any boxes, click on 'allow another program' and find and allow the 3 exe files - tes3mp.exe, tes3mp-browser.exe and tes3mp-server.exe. Do this for both, not sure of the way to do it with windows 10, but i'd imagine it's similar.
Ghost Mar 11, 2019 @ 10:05pm
@ David, i'm aware of that, but if the system is failing in creating a character profile, using an existing might cause the password box to pop up. Since you appear to be running mge, run it again on your friends computer.

Okay tried everything suggested so far. Don't have time to work on the problem anymore right now but so far nothing has worked. Starting to feel close to the point where its not worth the effort anymore

Does anything change if you right click on TES3MP-browser and select "run as administrator"?
If not, maybe try entering the relevant info for direct connection to the server into tes3mp-client-default.cfg and run tes3mp.exe as administrator.

As I see it, the issue is, as far as we know, unique to that Windows 10 PC. I am not aware of many similar cases and therefore I don't have enough data to provide any specific suggestions.

Okay I will give it a try next time. I do appreciate the help. It's just my luck that this kind of thing is having so much problems when few others do :steamfacepalm:

I'm also thinking when I have the chance I will try to just start fresh and do full uninstall on both pcs and reinstall with just basic plugins. No rebirth mod installed or anything else and see if that makes a difference.
Devin Mar 13, 2019 @ 4:55pm
Its working now. I have just the bare bones morrowind installed now no mods and it works with multiplayer. Not sure what the problem was before. I may try to add rebirth again and see if there is a problem but it looks like it was something to do with the way it was setup before but I don't know what. Thanks for the attempts at helping me, its appreciated
