So where is the truth is there some specific issue (in one game)?

I want to be able to play local multiplayer games on Steam with 7-8 players.
What controler should I get if I have 4 XBox One controllers already?
That's the weird part. I had 5 of them working when I ordered 5, and 10 total controllers worked with 5 XB1 controllers. Thrilled, I ordered 3 more F710's and 3 more Xb1 controllers because I thought if 5 worked, surely 8 would given that it passed the usual 4 limit.
Now with all 8, everything has crapped the bed. I think I could have even messed something up with all the drivers that have been installed, as well as some of the F710's seemingly not caring if it's Dinput or Xinput (showing rumblepad vs controller in device manager).
Results are never the same. I have had 14 controllers working in Regular Human Basketball on some days, and then a 9th controller of any type will crash the game other days.
I have more to figure out as I keep testing.
Edit: Addressing your final comment, 8 Xbox 1 controllers with the newest adapter that connects 8 is 100% the way to go. It's my fallback and has never failed.
Double Edit: The 16 in Regular Human Basketball was a mix of xbox 360 controllers on a wireless adapter into the mix. We had 3 blue screens on the laptop before it worked. It's really uncharted territory and so support is non existant.
It's proprietary with their USB dongle that is synced per controller.
I've been meaning to try 2 xbox1 8 controller adapters for 16 total, but that's a lot of money to drop on trying something
Did you ever get them in and test on some games? I’m still getting completely non-replicable results in the few attempts. My next LAN is in 2 weeks so I have a little more time to hopefully iron out these issues.
