so maybe adding a delay to the webkit.css code to hide it might work ?? anyone knowledgable with css could try it ? i have only veeeery limited knowledge so i dont know what the code for adding a delay might be.
i found something like this:
transition: visibility linear 0s 5s;
on google but idk how to correctly use it or if this is enough :(
Since yesterday it's not working anymore.
I took a look into the clients DOM and verified that my modifications (css-selectors) are still pointing at the right places, they do.
I tried out some other skins.
At this point I can't find any skin which is still able modify the game library.
Other elements like the main windows titlebar are still modable.
I would appreciate any input which shows a working modification of this part of the client.
ofc because its what i said, valve forced it and i think i know how.. they added a delay for the whatsnew section to pop up.. a delay of like 5-15 seconds.. someone who knows the code very well might be able to circumvent it by adding an even bigger delay before the code to disable the whatsnewsection is run. i think this is the only way sadly :(
What technically is much more likely is that they straightup ignore mods which affect the whole game-library page.
alright i couldnt know that my theory is wrong, i barely know anything about this coding language.
i hope someone will find a way to block this garbage, i'm so sick and tired of valve lately. they really turned into scumbags with their forced shit.. first they destroyed my profile (to some extent) with their forced steam replay 2022 badge that not only leveled me past level 70, which i wanted to keep as long as possible, but also deleted one of my 2 community badges i loved to have on the right side sooo much
and now they destroyed "my" library with that forced whatsnew section garbage that is meant for neanderthals.. people without brains because everyone who has a brain is capable to check for updates and infos for a game they care about without the need of this whatsnew section... so far 2023 has been horrible on steam, worse than ever before and seeing how valve forced 2 things in just one month upon people it doesnt give me any hope for the future :(
I forgot that that section even existed, I look at it maybe twice or thrice per year. I just scroll to the game on the left, as I find that faster to go through than the weirdly gridding and resizing tiles in the middle.
It's a small section that you can just scroll past.
And by are you trying to say that "everyone who cares should click each game one by one in case anything happened since last time they looked"? Really? I forgot that I had Warframe still installed and would you look at that, an update. Without me having to go through entire list of games I have, just in case.
good for you, i go to my library 5 times per day at least and i use the grid view that shows all my installed games and this whats new section fucks it up completely...
sounds like you are one of those people that install hundreds of games and never play them, even forget they installed it. i'm different, i usually only have 6-10 games installed and i play through them then delete them. my library always only shows my installed games and because they are only a handful this whatsnew section completely destroys my library because its bigger than those games i have installed. so basically the promotion is bigger than my visible library of instaled games. thats just fucked up !
it speaks worlds about you though if you cant even remember which games you have installed. that's actually your personal problem so maybe think about yourself for a bit before posting here and trying to force your opinion upon another persons. not everyone is such a mess like you and doesnt care about anything, installs everything without using it and doesnt even remember what products are installed (rofl) etc :(
edit: instead of writing a post like you did, you could just ignore this thread if you like that whats new section. this thread is not for you, its for people that HATE the whats new section so go away and dont try to force your personal opinions upon other people and even call them "being butthurt" only because you like it.. its insanely ignorant to think your opinion is the most important one and everyone is like you so ppl who aren't are haters or butthurt etc ;)
So you're saying that you can name all 952 games in your library without looking? Each and every one? You just said you remember and only display installed ones, so idk. And i suppose that you also never ever forgot about anything during your entire life, simply because "you have a brain"? Not sure if I should congratulate or feel sorry.
Never said I did. I just said that I never notice it due to how clunky IMO the tiles are. And last time I checked, asking why is someone so agressive about something wasn't forcing anything on anyone.
You stated you despise it and people who use it are neanderthals; I stated that I couldn't care less about it, and only then you said that you only display what's relevant for you, in which case it is way more visible - I can absolutely agree with that, but that is absolutely not near the tone of your initial post and comments before my comment.
It seems like it waits for the skin to fully load before overwriting things like the removal of What's New or any other customization.
That's what I originally thought but the OG Steam skin still technically works. It seems like Valve has specifically targeted sections they know people mod.

Because back in 2018 Valve asked the beta testers what they liked and disliked about the upcoming new version of the client. The "What's New" section was almost unanimously hated. So when the client released it was the only shelf that couldn't be turned off. That is malice on Valve's part.
I wrote an understandable argumentation about this here (look for the "But why?" section).

You may not be too offended by what you get in your steam client, sure.
But your input is basically "I don't care about ads". That's ok, but it's not what this topic is all about. It's like running by some people which talk about cars, stopping, and then telling them that you don't care about cars
oh, thats sad, so valve found a way to permanently force this trash upon everyone. well done...
i didnt know that but its shocking to read and even worse than i thought. steam might be a lost cause too as valve is slowly turning into activision-blizzard in my opinion
It already has.

wow shocking, thanks for the info and links ;) its so sad, steam was stellar once and now its going down the drain liek blizzard did once activision acquired them :(
