Metro Skin and Windows 11
Regarding about the preceding post, I was going to felt that Metro UI is going outadated as the Microsoft design team to completely revamp with the Fluent UI as part of Windows 11's UI consistency.

I'm using an Insider Preview build of Windows 11 to get the hands-on on the upcoming operating system, and using the Steam Metro UI skin and most of them are just fine. The only noticeable subtle change is the rounded window corners that affect most of the Win32 apps. And to reflect for the Fluent UI design principles, I changed the font from Segoe UI to Segoe UI Variable (first introduced in Windows 10 build 21376) by editing custom.styles file, though the semibold text will remain Segoe UI due to problems when applying variable typefaces.

Here's the screenshot on how Metro skin look like in Windows 11:

Steam does not support blur so blur wont work. Most major parts of steam are still using the 'webkit' ui and not the panorama.

As of this post the only skins that do major changes to the layout are Metro , Air , Pressure and a really nice skin called Threshold which could fit with windows 11 but i didnt saw any activity on it recently.

Most of these skins have a similar look and that's because it's not possible to edit steam further than this.

When steam will completely become a web based app then there would be more customization.

So I downloaded the GOG Galaxy launcher to try it out (actually, I've got a few games on GOG and I'll probably be buying more there instead of Steam in future) and my first impressions are: Goddamn, I know it has far fewer features than Steam, but it really highlights what a sluggish, bloated, ugly, inconsistent mess the Steam client-launcher is! It's even worse on Mac let me tell you! I frequently resort to browsing the store through a browser because the Steam app is so slow.

Is Steam ever going to make a fast, modern and responsive app for its platform? Highly unlikely it seems. They had a go at remaking the chat client, and it's better than it was but still nowhere near current best practice seen in some other apps. The rest of the app is still Windows 7 or earlier in terms of its appearance and responsiveness. Steam is just too happy sitting on its virtual monopoly to worry about keeping its software up with the times it seems. They should at least offer a modern client for the vast majority of people who have computers that can run Windows 10 or better. If compatibility with ancient hardware really is the issue, let people on Windows 7 or below use the old client.

I plan to buy more on GOG from now on anyway, but Steam will still be relevant and needed for my existing games for the foreseeable future. Plenty of games won't be available on GOG because of its DRM-free policy as it stands. Who knows, maybe they'll consider offering a form of DRM to entice more games over, so long as it's more generous than the current Steam policy and DRM-free is still available.
