ARK Server - Server Name

Hi, I seem to be having a strange issue with my new ARK server. I've just migrated my server from windows to debian. Since then, the server name is just never correct.

My server name is supposed to be "Primal Instincts-Primitive Evolved(ORP,PvP,No-Fly)".

No matter what I do, either editing the name in /home/arkserver/arkserver or editing GameUserSettings.ini, the name shows up as simply "Primitive".

I've tried removing all spaces and special characters. I've tried removing the name from GameUserSettings.ini completely. It seems that no matter what I do, the server name is "Primitive" and the SessionName in GUS.ini always changes to "Primitive".

Also, with editing the same two files, my max player count always changes to 70. I can change both /home/arkserver/arkserver AND GUI.ini, it will still change GUI.ini to 70 and launch with 70.

These two little problems are driving me nuts. Would anyone have any insight?

I'm not very experienced with Ark, but i'll try to help you being helped by others and give some keys for things to check.

First, give us the output of ./arkserver details (strip passwords)
Secondly, what are you editing your files with ?
Is your config file name and location correct, and owned by the right user and readable by it ?

I've been editing with nano. Shall I try vi/vim?
And yes, the name/location are correct and owned by the correct user. The server is fully functional other than these couple of things.

I just noticed as I ran ./arkserver details that my admin password is being parsed as well. Password is missing 4 characters from what I enter in ./arkserver to what shows up in details.

Could be a parsing error for the details function depending on you password characters, not necessarely critical.
Nano is fine, but did you import that file from the windows server ?

Well even though it's parsing the admin pass (the character is seems to parse at is a 0), the GUI.ini seems to overwrite the admin pass. So it's not really a problem.

I did, yes. Is that a nono? I went over it with notepad++ and a fine tooth comb to make sure there were no hidden characters.

Edit: If you mean the arkserver details, I just edited it in windows after capture to remove some of the formatting characters

Figured it out. The only way I could fix it is by removing the SessionName portion of the startup parameters in ./arkserver. For some reason, this also fixed my player limit of 70.

But now it's actually cropping my admin password for some reason. Figuring that out.

I re-read your topic, you said it was imported by windows, so maybe the character encoding has been messed up, which would explain your issues. I'm not sure how you can convert it back. When you try to open it with notepad++, and go to "encoding", what encoding is set ?

Try something I did for my server:

servername="Novtalath\ and\ Tabasco\ ARK\ server:\ The\ Center"
In lgsm launcher it shows with backslashes but on list in game without.
