Controlling the other PC
Hi!

I have a powerful desktop and a laptop. I have been using Steam In-Home Streaming from the desktop to laptop. They are connected by the same network, but we are actually far away, in two seperate buildings.

I was wondering if Steam could include some kind of UI Interface that have options such as Shutdown, Hibernate and Sleep etc... so that I could control the desktop from the laptop.

During one of my games, a Windows pops up and knock me out of the game. During this incident, I could remote control the desktop, as if I was using. It was very neat! I couldn't find a way to replicate that without some complicated command.

Maybe something like a hotkey to knock you out of your current game, or an option, to start streaming the Windows Desktop so I could be control remotely.

Thanks Valve for the In-Home Streaming, it has been very helpful. I hope my suggestion is useful for you or others.

+1 for controlling shutdown / reboot options for the server machine!

You can stream the desktop by alt tabbing out of what is being streamed. I use notepad++ added as a non-steam game. I alt tab out of it and as long as notepad++ is running I can use the desktop like normal.

It would be great to have a desktop option, but I can wait for the beta to get further along before something like that is added.

Very true, sir!

I find that Alt+Tab on my client PC just bring me out to my client's desktop, not the server's desktop. I have been making use of Remote Desktop Connection from Windows. It's really useful once I've gotten a hang of it. But I just fear for other less advanced users.
