Tridef Ignition Compatibility
The main reason I was looking forward to steam in-home streaming was to use it wit Tridef Ignition to play my PC games on my (passive) 3D tv in the living room without moving my PC.

Sadly it seems that this isn't possible with the way steam currently achieves this.

The impression I get from what I've seen so far is that, when running in true fullscreen, steam captures the render buffer for the game and streams that, rather than the screen buffer. I believe tridef ignition also tries to do this, causing tridef to crash, and the game stop. When running in borderless fullscreen, steam seems to capture the desktop area instead, which would work with tridef except that tridef needs the game to run in full-screen.

If what I think is happening is true, would it be possible to make steam (have an option to) always capture from the screen buffer, rather than the render buffer? This has likely been done to decrease latency, which is fair enough, but I get the impression this could adversely affect other things too and might be a useful compatibility option.

Hopefully there's some fact in my theory and valve can allow this awesome feature to work in future versions!

Just to be clear, I am talking about streaming a Top-Bottom 3D render to a Passive 3D TV, not frame packing or 120fps 3D used for active displays.

If anyone else has had success with tridef ignition and in-home streaming, please let me know!

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

I have done some more research and it turns out Tridef 3D has a registry hack you can use to enable 3D in windowed mode instead of exclusive fullscreen. Using this in combination with DXWnd and WinExp to force games into (borderless) windows, any (Tridef Supported) game should be streamable in 3D!

So far, I have enjoyed Far Cry 3, AC IV and the Walking Dead on my LG Cinema 3D tv in Top-Bottom Mode :D (Just remember to set the TV input type to 'PC' to remove post-processing on the TV).

Everything is available through this thread:

Dear Valve
Please add in options to force games into borderless windowed mode using the same method as the aforementioned tools (a global setting with black-list or white-list of games to apply to).

Also, I noticed an issue with streaming non-steam games whereby they don't get listed AT ALL in the 'recent' view. I would assume this is because the steam account doesn't record how much you've played a non-steam game so it gets excluded. Could this data be retrieved from the server machine?

Good to hear, I'm interested in this too!

Does anyone have access to that registry hack, or any alternative solution to get this working?
