Add wake on LAN to remote play/steam link

I use wake on LAN all the time to wake up my host PC when I want to play a game. If it was built into steam, that would be really great. Whenever there is no connection to the host PC and you chose that PC to play the game, there could be an option to wake the PC. Might not be a feature to enable by default as most people don't understand how WoL works and it can be tricky with wireless networks, but for people trying to set up a seamless gaming experience I think it would be a great thing to have.

Steam Link already has this feature. Steam Link should automatically attempt to send WoL packets when you try to connect to an offline computer.

Users still need to configure their PC BIOS to enable low power states and listen for WoL packets. Unfortunately, Steam cannot simplify or automate that part of the setup.

That's awesome! I had no idea! I'm also talking about remote play though. When you're running steam from a windows PC and you are just in the steam app. If the computer is off or asleep, it is not available as an option. The steam link app for PC is so hard to find it makes me think valve has abandoned it and it is a bit buggy. Plus it seems silly to have a separate app for streaming on PC.

You can use a python script using a package like this[pypi.org] (or a terminal command in Linux aka Steam Deck) to send the magic packet for you. Just save it as an app on steam and run it before you try to do remote play.

I agree it would be a nice feature to not have to do this when steam link already supports it so maybe someday it'll be added as an option. For now this is the easiest workaround.
