Now we just need LAN emulation
So we have the ability to play split screen and couch games together (which is great). A nice addition to this would be the ability to Steam Remote Play Together for games that are heavily reliant on LAN play (maybe their servers have shut down, or they just never had online multiplayer). Currently, doing this over the internet requires a tool like LogMeIn Hamachi or some other garbage, all of which is difficult to set up, and requires overloading your PC with unnecessary and bloated software.

Being able to emulate a LAN connection through steam for any game (even non-steam games) would be an absolute godsend, as it would likely bring new life to a bunch of old games that are no longer really accessible without hours of setup.

This feature wouldn't utilize streaming at all.

Isn't this just as simple as everyone being on the same VPN?

Really? Why? A VPN just makes you appear like you're on the same subnet, so a local-search will locate the remote games. I'm obviously not talking about VPNs to let you mask what country you're in, but something you'd host locally for your friends to join.
