Alien: Isolation
Hello all,

I'm experiencing problems when running Alien Isolation. The fps don't seem to be constant, dipping from fine (60+) to downright bad (less than 20). Changing settings doesn't have any effect, however switching the resolution from 1600x900 to 1280x720 gave me a slight impression of things speeding up, while the fps still are not constant. Things occasionally go into slow motion, and I do not only mean low fps, but true slow motion: sounds play before the animations start and controls are sluggish. Switching to and from Steam beta clients did not seem to help.

Forcing vsync or switching it off didn't help me either. I tested it for a few minutes by playing the game on my host PC instead of the streaming client downstairs. It seems like in-home streaming is (part of) the problem, because the game runs absolutely fine on the host pc upstairs. I've been playing around with in-home streaming for the last few months, and after some initial problems I think I have perfected my setup (cat6 cabling, a fast gigabit router). I do not run into problems of this kind with other games, so I wonder if it has anything to do with DX11.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Now I have to play this game all alone, upstairs in a barely lit room without my wife to keep me company...

Host:

Update:
I've managed to get Alien: Isolation to run smoothly! When running fullscreen, AI runs great on my host PC. When playing on my in-home streaming client, the framerate seems to suffer badly. I've tried changing settings in-game. I had switched resolutions with almost no positive results, changed settings to no effect and switched to a borderless window. None of the changes had the result I wished for. I have tried forcing vsync through the drivers and turning it off completely, but that did not help either.

What I didn't try was running the game in windowed mode while streaming. For some reason that seems to have solved my problem. After that, I quit the game and added 1600x900 to the window resolutions in ENGINE_SETTINGS.XML in the 'Data' folder of AI. When running the game again, 1600x900 became selectable in the options screen and my problems with this game were history.
