Steam Remote Play black screen
ISSUE
black screen when streaming from laptop to PC in all games

Laptop OS
win 10 x64
i7-4720 HQ 2.60
Nvidia GTX 980m

PC OS
win 10 x64
processor Intel Core 2duo 2.6 E7300
Nvidia 9600 gt

The latest graphics drivers are available for every device.

STEPS

Host with default remote signal settings
Client with default settings
Also Host and client with hardware encoding and decoding disabled

The game starts correctly on the host (laptop), but there is no image (black screen) on the computer.
Date of last successful launch (with image) 01/21/2025 after 1 am.
The date the problem occurred was 01/21/2025 after 10 am.

During this time period the computer turned off. Laptop - no.
After the problem was discovered, the laptop and Steam were rebooted on both devices.
No additional actions were taken that could affect the work.
When broadcasting from a computer to a laptop, the image is displayed correctly.

EXPECTED
video works

I have same issue. If you disable encoding you will get white screen :D
Also if you manualy delete your GPU driver you can play normal. But this is very bad idea.

And if your motherbord have intel GMA gpu you can just take out your NVIDIA and use streaming with built-in video card. It should work fine then with your CPU only.

With dicable encoding i hava black screen too.
My motherbord without intel gpu((
The situation looked extremely strange. At night I played and saw the image, and in the morning - no.
If I provide the versions of the graphics drivers on two devices to support Steam Remote, then this will somehow help add forced launch and image broadcast specifically for these driver versions?

are you using steam client, or steam link app on the client pc?

They both work in the same way with same options, but little different interface.
Only one way to play for me now is using Moonlight + Sunshine. My old notebook can handle 60 fps.

try toggling hardware encoding on host, and hardware decoding on client

does it work to stream to your phone or other devices?

make sure windows network is set to private not public
any vpn is disabled
if using wifi, check router settings, disable wifi isolation

host and client should have similar ip address, 192.168.same.different
and you should be able to ping the client from host pc

I try everything, disabling decoding, encoding, AV1, HEVC, any possible combination of this options.

All works fine at 2024, but then after few steam updates they broke support for old devices, and after that i cant even use cpu only for my streaming. It work with phone, it work with Core 2 Duo and Intel GMA 3100, but it not working with Core 2 Duo and Nvidia GT 8600m GPU. So in my oppinion steam just manualy trying use my old GPU for decoding, even with all checkboxes for it disabled. Like i say - when i delete gpu drivers stream works fine, but i need drivers to play other games and google chrome hardware acceleration.
P.s. Gma 3100 is much more worst than GT 8600, its not support any acceleration.

gt8600m is a mobile dedicated gpu, most of those work along side the intel onboard gpu, gma something

make sure to get all the mobo drivers for the laptop form the laptop mfg site
intel chipset, intle gpu, and nvidia mobile gt8600m gpu, and all other drivers
There is no intel onboard gpu in that laptop, only 8600m.

what laptop brand/model?
This is not important, but 8510w Hp
Not important cuz other people in this forum have same problems and different devices, but we all have old GPU. And we all have working stream before steam update, and broken stream after steam update 😣 We cant do anything, just use different stream program, like i say - use Moonlight now and its work even better, with 60 fps 1080p.

the laptop can only have upto 4g or ram max
any os beyond xp would not run good on it

steam now requires win 10,
if its still on 7-8 that may be part of the problem

but if moonlight works, keep using that
I have win 10 and 4 gb.
I have other laptops with 2 gb ram and 10 works fine there :D
