Hugely increased mouse sensitivity streaming a low-res game
ISSUE:
Streaming in general works fine. Streaming a low-resolution game between two systems with (relatively) high resolution displays, however, results in unplayably high mouse sensitivity. If I had to guess, I'd guess that the mouse is still moving the same number of *pixels* that would when not streaming, but since the game is running at such a low resolution this results in moving a much greater *distance* on the screen.

I tested every combination of the following settings, and mouse sensitivity was an issue in all of them:
- server 1680x1050 vs 800x600
- client 1920x1080 vs 800x600
- game set to change resolution vs. run black-bordered

I haven't been able to test it on OS combinations other than linux client/windows server, though.

ENVIRONMENT:
Server: Windows 7, 1680x1050 display
Client: Linux, 1920x1080 display
Games: any game that runs at a low resolution and has mouse support; Shadowgrounds and Geneforge are good choices.

REPRO:
- Start Steam on two computers with high-resolution displays.
- Start streaming a low-res game with mouse support.
- Swear as you try to manoeuver the now hyperactive mouse cursor over the "exit" button

Same issue on Borderlands2. Set-up: Win8.1 host @ 1920x1080 / Ubuntu 14.04 client @ 1366x768. The mouse flew from one side to the other. Fixed it by lowering the mouse sensitivity to the lowest possible setting.

Unfortunately not all games have a mouse sensitivity setting, and while Geneforge does, it's already at the lowest possible setting. :(

And using the settings in windows/linux itself?

Also already at the lowest setting. Taking the mouse off my desktop and setting it to the lowest possible DPI setting might make things playable, but if I'm doing that I might as well just play on the desktop (i.e. without streaming).

I'm having the same problem even though my laptop and desktop have the exact same resolution.

That's not surprising since the relative resolutions of the client and server don't matter -- only the resolution of the game compared to your screen resolution. The lower the resolution the game runs at, the worse it gets.

I know this is a very old thread, but I have found the solution. :)

The trick is to greatly decrease mouse sensitivity on the host machine. In my case, the host is Windows 10, so I went to Addition mouse options -> Pointer Options -> Select a pointer speed, and moved it to the slowest. Voila, on my Linux client the mouse is finally manageable!
