When invited to a Remote play session i am nearly always assigned two controllers

ISSUE
When i am invited to a Remote play session by friends i am nearly always getting assigned two controllers to me. so when i start the game and this happens with my xbox one wired controller (only controller connected) i am joining with and controlling two characters at the same time, matching the inputs with the one controller. quite annoying,

solution is that the inviter player uses the steam remote play window to unassign a controller from me. sometimes it immediately assigns a different extra one to me, sometimes it works fine after this. but id like to know what is the likely cause.

I found a solution that worked for me:

In the main Steam window, click on Steam > Settings > Controller, scroll near the bottom and check if the "Xbox Extended Feature Support Driver" is installed. If it is, uninstall it and reboot, and you should only show up as one controller afterwards.
