- Streaming to steam deck, "hardware" steam link and any of the steam link apps works like a charm
- Streaming to iMac desktop using Steam CLIENT fails while Streaming to iMac Desktop using Steam Link App works !!
By fail I mean:
Start streaming will bring up the game on host.
The game's status changes to "Running" on Steam App on the iMac
But nothing shows on the iMac, the button changes back to "Connect" after a second or two.
Re-clicking it does nothing. No error message.
Appreciate any help i can get
This started happening to me right around the time this discussion started. Was working fine, then one day getting the same thing you are experiencing. The logs are useless as far as I can see.
I was simply trying to set up a little laptop, capable of running steam (But no GPU worth speaking of), and as i'm very familiar with the steam link app running on the big screen tv downstairs, I thought this would be simple.
First, after I had installed steam on my little laptop, signed in as the same account as my desktop, and had all the options available to stream from my desktop, to the laptop.
Sadly, every time I pressed "Stream" the game would start on the desktop, but there would be nothing streamed to the laptop. Pretty much the same experience as all you guys.
So, after exhausting all the options of hardware encoding, ipv6, ports and blah blah blah, I decided i'd grab the windows version of the steam link app and call it a day.
Go download the windows version of the stem link app.
For me at least, it included some runtime events and a couple of files which it downloaded alongside the steam link, which I can only presume are missing from the latest version of the full steam client.
Now, Streaming directly from within the steam library on the laptop (NOT the steam link app) works perfectly, full keyboard controls, shift tab for full overlay, my favourite wired controller, everything. AND I have the option of keeping the steam link app for when my housemate wants to come sit in the lounge and use the laptop, without the hassle of signing out and back in again.
(I did have to uncheck the hardware DECODING on the client laptop as my first attempt ended up with a really bright and saturated picture.)
Hope this all helps.
Man you're a life saver. I wasn't aware of Steam Link windows app before.
Installing the stand alone app solved it. Now I can use the HTPC as client with either link app or steam itself.
I'm pretty sure it's a dependency issue lol

I'll also cross-post the solution suggested here if it hasn't been done yet.
