Disabling Steam Input option not affecting anything on Client
Hello. I use a DS4 to play games on steam on my desktop (host) just fine, and all of last year I was able to use it on my laptop just fine as well. I'd just disable steam input there exactly as I do on the desktop and games that have built in support for it would recognize it just fine.

However, now when I try to use the same controller in the same way it doesn't work. Regardless of whether or not steam input is disabled, the game only recognizes the DS4 as an xbox controller. It feels like the option just isn't doing anything at all.

I've tested this on 2 games installed through Steam itself as well as multiple external emulators. All of these things worked prior to a couple of months ago.

I've tried everything I can think of including reinstalling Steam itself. I do not use DS4Win.

If anybody has any ideas or has experienced this as well I'd appreciate any help!

steam input is needed for remote play controllers
since the remote controllers are not connected directly to the host pc

uninstall ds4windows and scp toolkit
they are no longer needed
steam can map each controller for bpm/desktop/chord and each game separately

just config them as needed or each
begin streaming and use steams controller config, select controller, browse config, pick default, and tweak as needed and save

i said i don't use DS4Win and i don't know what scp toolkit is. I used this controller setup just fine with remote play all year last year and had no issues.

i don't know what bpm/desktop/chord is either, for that matter.

None of my configuration is wrong, it's clearly just some newly introduced issue with remote play

the controller can have different profiles for bpm (big picture mode)
desktop mode
and chord profile (a temp profile activated only when holding the home/ps/xbox button)

chord is great for media keys, ff/rew/play/pause/stop/volume, and some winkey combos and mouse control
desktop mode, mouse, buttons, and a few winkeys combos
bpm, just for bpm and steams osk

but anyway
all of those can have different configs for each controller

when streaming the game, open steams controller config, and pick the controller, and browse configs, pick default, and tweak its settings as needed

i'm not having issues using the controller at all. i'm having issues using my dual shock 4 in apps that have built in support for it because i can no longer just disable steam input for it when using it in remote play.

this function used to exist, it no longer does. is there anywhere i can request the feature? or report it if it's a bug?

add the problematic apps to steam as non steam game

does it work with desktop mode or while using the chord profile (hold ps/xbox/home)

Yes. It works with chord on third party apps. but that has nothing to do with my issue. I'm losing my mind here man.

again my issue isn't with the controller not working, it's with it not being detected as a dual shock 4 even with Steam Input is disabled. my controller works just fine. i can use it in any way you could ever possibly use it EXCEPT as a dual shock 4 when playing through remote play.

Again, this worked for me just fine last year. I changed nothing at all. Every single thing is the same on my end.

the "problematic apps" are third party emulators i run through steam so i can stream them to my laptop as well as actual native steam games that just have built in dual shock 4 support.

i just want it to be detected as a dual shock 4 in apps that natively support the dual shock 4.

games dont always know what type of controller it is

most default to show xbox prompts, some have options to show xbox or ps
almost non have options to show switch prompts

look man i've said it like 150 times now that i was using apps that have built in dual shock 4 support. the controller literally works fine on my desktop. i can literally open ff12 from my steam right now and play with perfect DS4 support and then it will fail with remote play.

thank you for attempting to help me but i don't think we're getting anywhere here.

edit: honestly for anybody reading this thread i think this person is a bot. they just spam the same thing over and over in various threads. i'm not even using a switch controller for example.

just do not even engage with this account
