Why do I need to enter authorization code? And how?
I have two computers A and B, and I want to stream a game on A from B.

When I started my streaming on B, an authorization code popped up and indicated me to enter the code on A.

But it's hard for me to manipulate the two computers at the same time.
It does not make sense to enter a short-term auth code when streaming.

My friend suggested me use chrome remote desktop to enter the code.

I think you should do it like other remote desktop apps. The auth code persists on the computer to be connected. When I want to stream, I just have to enter the long-term code on another computer.

If you really cannot solve it, I will try chrome desktop as a workaround. But I'm not sure how many days I will spend.

Same problem. On memorial day weekend I traveled 400 miles away, leaving my pc on and I successfully used my steam deck to stream. Now for July 4th week I did the same thing and now rhe same 400 miles away I tried using my steM deck and it's asking for an authorization code. Why would anything like this change? Steam support didn't want to help me. They sent me here to complain.

Can we at least have the option to disable such over-protection idiotic measures???

you can disable the connect code on the host pc
steam -> settings -> remote play -> set pin code (both blank)

I want to clarify one thing.

Do I need to enter a code on the host PC anytime?

you will still need to enter the pairing code on the host pc the first time you try to connect the client

This is the dumbest thing steam has ever done. They need a different way to pair a PC as this is useless when you are miles away from your host PC. We shouldn't have to jump through hoops to stream a game from our main PC to a PC we signed into with security questions. If I can log into my account on a PC using steam guard from the steam app on my phone it should allow me to stream my games without having to input a code on my host PC.
Having the same issue. Drove 400 miles to visit family for 4th of July weekend. Left my host PC on and went to stream a game on my laptop and was prompted to type in an authorization code onto the host PC. How does that even make sense? Traveled many times before and never once had this code come up before. What am I even supposed to do now? Type in the code form 400 miles away?

then that's useless, if both pc's are not in the same building, they basically removed remote play unless you have someone that can log into your pc and your steam account and input the code which is WAAAAY LESS secure... (because it means giving someone access to your computer and/or steam account)

it's hilarious that you can't disable it...

sigh guess it's time to setup moonlight :(

after its paired you only need to enter the connect code
steam -> settings -> remote play -> [set security code]

if you have a phone or other device paired you can use that to pair another pc or device

how would I even set it up through the phone? wouldn't the phone ask me to input the code on the host machine as well? that means that I could not do that for at least 3 weeks (In my case) and I'm sure people will be in similar situations.

and even IF I did that on my phone in 3 weeks, I'm guessing the idea is to remote through the phone and THEN input the code on the host machine through the phone right? which is completely unnecessary. (maybe I'm wrong and I don't need any if that, if so then what's the process)

why is an account password and MFA not enough? this added layer is only causing friction, it's not doing anything...

I would understand making this an opt in situation, but why force it on everyone, the only people that it protects it's people with compromised accounts or people that share their accounts (for the compromised accounts, MFA being required to use steam remote play would be completely fair, for sharing accounts, I'm pretty sure that's against TOS and steam already makes it easy to share games with family share so idk what the point is)

pair your phone while you are at the host
do some prep work and make sure it works before going away

No man, I'm using PC B to play from PC A. And the PC B give me a code to input on PC A. But How TF am I suppose to do that on a device thats far away from me. I know the safety problems of not using an authentication. But why not use the Steam Guard for this ? Thats on an unique cellphone, its a good way to control it. Steam can ask for a code every time I run a game but JESUS, ask for a code that I can reach or use REMOTELY

This should be what was done, went to remote play today while on holidays and nope can't. I have steam guard but I can't access my computer back home to punch in the code my laptop is giving me. This seems like such a braindead "update" to steam.

Direct Quote from Steam Support:
"How do I use Remote Play?
Remote Play Anywhere
1. Log in to the Steam client on the computer with the installed game you wish to play.
2. Now, Log into Steam on another computer or a supported device with Steam Link app installed.
3. From there, you can launch and play the game remotely from the Steam Library."

Doesn't mention anything about authorization codes to launch games...

Just so we are clear I am also extremely frustrated with the update and would very much like it changed back or as a toggle option and not a general feature.

It really has not. I have never been asked to `Enter an Authentication Code on [Host Name]` in the many years I have used Remote Play from work. PC to PC, not using steam link.
This is not the pin, it is not asking for the pin from settings you keep linking in.
This is something new, and very stupid, as I'm at work, using the same two computers I have for the last half decade...
