Why do I need to enter authorization code? And how?

I have two computers A and B, and I want to stream a game on A from B.

When I started my streaming on B, an authorization code popped up and indicated me to enter the code on A.

But it's hard for me to manipulate the two computers at the same time.
It does not make sense to enter a short-term auth code when streaming.

My friend suggested me use chrome remote desktop to enter the code.

I think you should do it like other remote desktop apps. The auth code persists on the computer to be connected. When I want to stream, I just have to enter the long-term code on another computer.

If you really cannot solve it, I will try chrome desktop as a workaround. But I'm not sure how many days I will spend.

there are 2 codes
a pairing code for, only need to enter once on host to allow client to control it

and connect code, you can set that code on host and need to enter it every time on client


that just in case someone gets your steam acct, to stop them from controlling your pc remotely

you can disable the connect code, but its best to not to
or set it to a short code or something thats easy to enter on the client when connecting

Is this a new "feature?" I fired up remote play this week and got a prompt for a code. I've never seen this until now. So, how am I supposed to enter a 4-digit authorization code on my remote host computer that's miles away? It. Is. Remote. That's the whooooole point of Remote Play, no? I don't see any menu options for disabling this "feature." I've unpaired everything from both computers and left connect codes blank. Just use a remote desktop management program to enter the code, then? Great, but then why would I need Steam Remote Play at all if I could run my PC from somewhere else with something else? I'm thinking this may be the ultimate solution, anyway.

I have a similar problem of 2 PCs (A&B) and 2 locations. Both PCs are logged in the same Steam account. PC A Is running Steam at the first location, and I am located at the second location, with PC B running Steam. PC B is asking me to enter an authorization code at PC A's location. Problem is, that I am unable to enter the code with PC A being in a different location than PC B. Chat, Am I cooked?

if you dont know the code, or cant change it on host, you are stuck

Then why did I just start getting these authorization prompts a few days ago? The only thing that changed last week was a Steam update and it hasn't worked for me since. I tried to set a PIN on the host computer, but that seems to have done nothing because I wasn't asked for a PIN during my latest attempt to remote play. I could see setting a fixed PIN to authenticate your connection to the remote computer, but having to enter a random code displayed on the remote computer that's miles away makes no f***ing sense.

do you have link app on phone paired to host already?
you can use that to enter the pairing code on host

I don't have the Steam Link app on my phone. I have no desire to play Fallout 4 on a phone. I want to play on a PC that's not on the same network as my home PC. My home PC is visible in my devices list and when I try to pair it, it asks for an authorization code. I have Teamviewer so I can see my home desktop and look for the code that's supposed to have appeared on that device, but there is nothing. No authorization codes are being transmitted to or from either PC. Does Remote Play now require both devices to be connected to the same router? I discovered that the Steam Link app does. I have a feeling they've silently nerfed Remote Play as well. Maybe they should just call it "Play from, maybe, like your living room?"

im sayin if you had the link app on your phone and it was paired with the pc already, you could use that to enter the new paring code for the other device

Oh. Unlike with attempting to pair the devices, just starting the game actually generated a code that I could use, so it's more or less fixed at this point.

Same problem here. I'm hundred kilometers away and I was hoping to play as I'm away for 2 weeks. Seems I won't be able to play :(. Major feature that is dead now. RIP remote play... and if they continue to do sh!t like this it will be sooner than later when we can talk abour RIP Steam.

Suddenly having this issue as well. I've remote played this PC dozens of times in the past with no issue and now it's suddenly asking me to enter a code on a PC that's 50 miles away? Make it make sense please.

I have the same problem. I work as a truckdriver and can't access the host from my job. How am I supposed to enter a code on a pc I'm not sitting at? It used to work without a code when i was away about 2 weeks ago :/
