Remote play no sound on client device
The thing is, Me and my friend want to play a couple of games together on Remote play, but we can't because while the host has audio, the client device hasn't got any.
The most interesting part is that we used to play things together before where we had audio on both devices, but not anymore. We didn't change any settings, and still no sound.

The Remote play setting which called play audio on host is ticked on, and we have the same remote play settings as well for both audio and video. The steam orverlay is switched on too.

By the way it doesn't matter which one of us is the client we've already tried forwards and backwards it doesn't work either way.

I've read a lot about others saying "it cant be because the audio is only playable on one device" - then why did it work for us earlier?

As I mentioned: The play audio on host and steam overlay are turned on.

Could someone help us, please?

As of sometime in mid November, client sound on steam remote play has been broken/silent. Some think it's an issue with either the windows update or the steam update that occurred on the same day. So far, no solid solutions have been discovered, and we're all waiting for steam to patch it back to normal. Many recommend creating a steam support ticket so this issue gets Valve's attention and they can finally patch it.

Have you check the audio output device on the streaming computer? Make sure the output is Steam Streaming.

Thanks Bacon that explains it

Vince no I haven't checked that but normally I don't have an output device called Steam Streaming. Is it only available when I start a Remote play or is it a pre-installed feature? I check it quick

Btw It might be a really stupid question but what is this Steam Streaming? Because I have no idea. The remote play is between 2 pc of course and none of us have this output device.

Is it something that we need to install as well?

And I think Bacon has it right with this because not too long ago it worked properly and it turned to this recently so I hope the Valve will fix this issue

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but I have noticed that recent versions of Steam Remote Play often have issues selecting the correct audio output device on the Windows stream server, leading to no audio on the client computer while streaming. I had to disable unused audio device drivers in device manager to workaround the problem.

What I mean by output device:

Same problem.

Everyone please open a support ticket for this so that somebody in charge will eventually get notified.

Help -> Steam Support -> Steam Client -> Steam Client Crashes (no better option sadly) -> Contact Steam Support

They told me that they are basically ignoring my request for now, but are monitoring whether more people report the same issue.

Support answered me "Due to the number of unique machine configurations, network setups, firewall settings, and various software configurations we don't provide in-depth technical support for this."

yes, all people have the sound of remote play broken at one point, this is their problem and not ours :smiling:

I've already tried it but it doesn't work. Also the day before it worked fine for me but neither the host system nor the client had steam streaming audio: i had to manually install drivers found on github to try it. At this point the most likely option is that's not on the user to fix. Just open a ticket and hope the devs solve it. In the mean time one can try parsec as an alternative... i haven't yet myself but i hear it works fine

Not sure if you all are still having this issue, but googling today for this issue i found a youtube vid that showed me how to fix this. https://youtu.be/XiJLX2mANlc?si=WftQqgLW9pdM6PLq
First thing, I set my steam client to the beta version like he suggested, then also set the advanced stream setting to play sound ON THE HOST DEVICE (I know, seems counterintuitive). Then I ensured that the output on the host device is set to Steam Streaming Speakers, and to be double sure I checked that Steam in the sound mixer was set to Default so it was using the system sound setting.

Hopefully this helps someone with this issue!
