Lets discuss how could we build cheap receiver hardware!
I already had discussion about raspberry pi, but people told me it is not possible to use it for its lack of capability like ethernet port or because it has ARM chip. But that does not convince me at all! This receiver is a computer which will do only three things: receive 1080p video, tranceive it to the tv and send controller inputs back to the main computer. Is it so hard to code something on it to do these stuff? And nobody actually know how much will be the video encoded in the main pc ( Steam showed wifi stream capability).

Yes.. It's like that I trying to say..!!
Ouya running over android, I saw some fellows that runs linux on android hardware. so It's possible.
The tegra 3 is good to run the Splashtop thd, and run good quality streamed games.
See the link :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8x3nbP4tx48
the APP used is Splash top thd, but don't have good controller suport.

This is kainy another android pc game stream:

Ouya could be hacked, it's not treated as piracy on open source system, but another android hardware could be used for that.

Nvidia Shield do this, and runs over android too, but is too expensive.

Me and some friends wrote Limelight, which does Steam streaming. There is an Android version, which has been tested and works on the Ouya, and there's also a windows/osx/linux version, and someone else ported it to work on the raspberry pi as well.

How did you manage to turn on the streaming stuff in Steam?

We use NVIDIA's GameStream, the software that is used for the Shield. We reverse engineered the protocol they used for the Shield and implemented it for other platforms.

So you ain't doing Steam streaming. Please don't raise false expectations.
If you however manage to RE Steam streaming when it goes lice, I'll totally use the product on my Pi.
Which reminds me. I'm not a godlike developer, but I am a developer. So can I help with the project?
Personally using my little sister's old laptop; just needed to pop an SSD in and it was good to go! I have it hooked up to a 50" LED HDTV for dualscreens too; game on 50", minutiae down below.

Sure, help is always appreciated, but this isn't the right place to discuss that. Here's the forum thread on XDA where we're doing development of it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2505510

There are also links to the Github projects on that thread.

Hey guys, since the whole streaming is running now, did anyone of you succeed in using a NUC?

By NUC you mean http://amzn.to/1fmpBdW?
If that is what you mean, I myself haven't tried it on one but I did get a small netbook running windows 7 (Acer Aspire ONE 2012) to recieve streamed games and it works okay. Generally 25+ fps at 720p with 33Mbps down and ~4Mbps up.
All in all it's a mixed bag and everyone is getting pretty mixed results according on Reddit. If I alt-tab out of the stream on my main computer and alt tab back in it actually increases performance by 20 frames - crazy. Hopefully in future updates it'll get better.

Oh and, here's a picture of a stream going on of a game called Warface: (non-steam game)

Has anyone benchmarked Limelight vs Steam streaming? Or even Limelight pi vs steam streaming? I'm curious to see which streams better.

From what it sounds like it does a little better job but it requires an Nvidia card. I would try it out, but like I said, it wont work with AMD.

I was wondering about a good cheap CPU for streaming. I was looking at this board:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138393

It's an embedded board but it's cheap and has PCIex16 which can fit a gt610 I have lying around.

According to CPUBoss.com, the Celeron 1037U on the board seems to be faster than my P8600 Core Duo2 on my MacBook Pro which could only stream games at around 30fps. The Gt610 and the Pentium D in my old desktop was able to stream Batman Arkham City at 60fps 1080p max setting with occasional fps drops. However, I am not sure this Celeron is better than the Pentium D.

If the 1037U isn't up to par my next option is to just get a cheap miniITX board and an intel Celeron G1610 which together would cost around $100.

The host computer is fine (i5-3570k 4.2ghz, gtx 770, 8gb ram, ect) so it's all up to the receiver, my local internet speeds, and the software itself.

Personally, I've been using an AMD A8-5600k as a client box. My results have been so-so. Although I'm confident that as the software matures, you could do this on whatever. I've been having fun seeing exactly what games support this.
Anyone think they're smart enough to hack an OnLive Gaming System ("microconsole") into a Steam Stream machine?

Can't. Uses ARM processor and steam doesn't run on ARM. It uses a Marvell Armada 1000 which is a custom ARMv5 processor.

It will work with AMD cards within a few months ;)
