Couldn't connect to the remote computer (Windows 8 - Windows 8 No Firewall)
Similar issues have been raised before.
This is what I'm experiencing;

- Computers connect, I can press "Stream".
- Game is launched on host computer (works both ways).
- I get "Couldn't connect to remote computer" on the client computer.
- The game is not streamed to the client computer, but remains running on the host.

I have disabled the firewall on both computers.

I'm using Windows 8 on both, same Steam version and both are "opt in beta".

I've tried multiple games, some of them are DmC, Don't Starve and Binding of Isaac.

Anyone experiencing the same or has solved this issue?

Hi soluken, sorry to be clear the game only started on the host after I chose to stream the game from the client. It was not already running before that.

This morning I hooked up the host via ethernet. So both host and client are ethernet.
Netgear DGND3300v2 [support.netgear.com].

Both Steam clients running and connected. Game : Mark of the Ninja.
Choose stream on client and it starts playing on the host. After a few seconds client says could not connect to remote computer.

So tantalize close.

I have exactly same problem.
Host is Windows 8.1 and client is Kubuntu 14.04, both using Beta Steam client.

Tried a few more settings, but still no luck. Even though its shows its connected, the client can not connect to remote computer.

I did notice that initially only the host can see the client, and not the other way around, that is until after they are conected, then computer names appear in the client menu.

Also tried same set up with Macbook pro. Tried rebooting router.

Update: Disabled Windows firewall. Was able to connect on first go. Now streaming with Host on wireless N, and Macbook pro on Wireless N. Tested Sina Mora. Worked great.
Just want to say that my problem was related to NAT on network. I have my streaming host on VM using QEMU/VFIO-PCI, but I didn't notice that my guest didn't use physical network card, but used NAT adapter instead.

Now I tested it with Windows 8 and 7 hosts in VM and this working fine.
FYI.. I came across this thread while researching

Steam Luancher Failed "Couldn't connect to remote computer"

The game would start on the host computer but wouldn't redisplay to the client.

My problem, which I was able to resolve, was that my wireless router, with Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/08/11) mini, wasn't allowing unacknowleged traffic over the bridge. To correct this, on my wireless router, I went to...

Wireless -> Advanced Settings

Then close to the bottom under "Wireless Multimedia Support Settings" selected...

No-Acknowledgement = Enable

And restarted my router and it worked.

This is most likely because Steam is using UDP packets to transfer information between host and client. Unlike TCP, a UDP packet doesn't require the recipient to acknowledge to the sender that it received the packet and thus reduces network overhead. Incidentally, this may also be why I've been having trouble with Windows File Sharing between computers.

I hope this helps someone out there.

You, sir, are my knight in shinning armor. I have been banging my head against the router for the longest time, trying to figure this ♥♥♥♥ issue out. I also have DD-WRT (DD-WRT v24-sp2 (11/11/14) giga) on a Netgear wndr4500v2 and from one version to the other, i wasnt able to stream anything to my windows laptop. After i enabled the above option, my streaming life is pink again and i am a happy customer.

Thanks a lot.
To those of you having this issue, simply click on the property of the wifi you are on. Make this pc discoverable -----------> On
