In theory a wired controller connected to client simply passes input to host then outcome of which gets sent back to client. The game running on host needs input.
There is a brilliant illustration of this in the announcements for this group.
Installing SteamOS to a BIOS machine is not a problem allthough is still not yet officially supported. Many solutions to this can be found at SteamOS bug tracker at GitHub.
I did notice that for it to work on the Macbook I had to have it plugged in when launching the game (via the streaming client) - hotplugging it or starting streaming some time after launching the game from the host didn't work.
Summary:
OS: Windows 7 x64
BigPicture Mode: No
Controller: Wireless x360 with a cheap dongle from dealextreme.
Game: Assassins Creed (1)
Can I:
A: Run the controller (xbox and/or playstation) from the PC RECIEVING the stream?
B: Run the controller (xbox and/or playstation) from the PC SENDING the stream?
C: Contoller will work on both.
I ask this because my beefy gaming PC is in my basement and my living room TV that I want to plug a laptop into is one floor up. I am concerened about the wireless or blutooth controller reception from a seperate floor.
In theory the controllers should work when connected to receiving (client) stream and is the intended purpose/use of in home streaming service.
The outcome seems to be affected by which game is being streamed and which controller as well as if steam@steamos BPM is used on host (sending) machine.
It had never even occurred to me that would work. Solves my problem of how I was going to use a controller on Mac clients. Now, of course, this really makes me want an iPad client - for controller games that would be a perfect "anywhere around the house" solution...
That's how I'm doing it. No problems with controller issues by doing this.
Computer A is streaming and Computer B is recieving
If only Computer A has a controller connected, it will use those controls
If only Controller B has a controller connected, it will use those controls
If both computers have controllers connected, it will only use Computer Bs controls.
