New Intel Compute Stick a Viable Client?
Intel just announced a new mini PC similar in size to a Chromecast or Amazon Fire TV, but it runs a full version of Windows 8.1, or Linux if you choose. The exact tech specs are vague, but it will have some variant of a quad-core Atom processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage (for the Windows version).
Is this even close to something that will work as a decent In-Home Streaming client? At $149 it seems like a good deal if it performs well enough.

runs fine on my Linx 8, which is basically the same spec as the new intel stick, so i would guess it would be ok.

Specs seem fine for streaming, also as a nice Plex/Xbmc client. But with the lack of ethernet as an option you better have a decent Wifi signal and router.

I'm wanting to see what the reviews are for this thing, since it's built for streaming over wifi.

Yeah, the only issue I noticed was it being wifi. Maybe you could use a USB netwrok adapter? The speed wouldn't improve, but maybe the reliablity will. For the price and it being so small it seems like a great deal if it runs well.

The only problem with this is if it's not dual band or AC specification. I do all my in home streaming via wi-fi one machine has dual band N and the other is a AC specification. And this is all at 1080p and bells & whistles.

I'm very curious to find out as well.. This would seem the perfect solution for streaming!
I'll have one in a week or 2 so youll know :)

I bought the Meegopad T01 (supposedly the same CPU spec). It seems to work ok with a USB ethernet adapter - it claims slow decode on the client end in the logs (I posted earlier today about this), but it seemed pretty good playing lego marvel today. I haven't experimented extensively yet though...

seems good :)
Nice! Have you ran into any issues? Does the 5GHz dongle make a big enough difference that it would be worth the investment? Is there a lot of compression artifacts? (hard to tell from the video)

Anyone try the Intel Compute Stick solution? I currently have the Nvidia Shield TV and perf is generally solid, but not fond of the controller and would prefer plugging in XBO controller via wifi usb dongle.

Might be easier to get a Steam Link and use an Xbox 360 controller with wireless adapter until there is official support for the Xbox One wireless adapter. I'm sure there will be a better solution eventually.
