HYPER - V AND STREAMING
Has anyone been able to successfully install steam on a HYPER-V virtual machine using remote FX and let games stream from there? I was able to install stream on a Windows 8.1 VM using remote FX but the games run way to slow. I think it’s because I am not familiar with remote FX and the virtual machine isn’t using the GPU completely. So anyone here with familiar of remote FX?

Here’s my step up
Host : Windows Server 2012 R2 - Data Center
Dual Xeon processors
HD 7970 ( X 2 if needed If i put my other 7970 in it would require PSU upgrade)
HD 6850
15 GB Ram
SSD - For Windows Server
SSD - For Hyper - V machines
WD Black 1TB for all of Steam
3- Network NIC adapters

3 Clients: Windows 7
i5 processors
8 GB Ram
SSD Drivers
R7 250 GPU

until you figure out true GPU passthrough in your VM you won't be able to use that as the steam host, maybe as a steam client since it really only needs to decode an h264 stream

I have read of success before using Hyper-V and remote FX somewhere before. But they didn't get into detail. They had issues to and it was with the GPU. They made it work though. I am just seeing if anyone here has done it with success and could give details on how they accomplished it.

Remote FX is for GPU pass-through but I have 0 experience with it. Anyone here with some?

NOTE: Steam isnt the program this server is being used for. But i have no problems at all running Steam games on it and letting other in houe PC's stream from it. My complaint is once another PC streams from it I lose all alibltiy to use the server. This is the need to be able to stream from a HYPER-V VM using remoter FX. I know it can be done. I have seen someone else do it. But they didnt get into detail on how they did it. If no one here can help I will start to look else where. I will make this my life goal. Once I have it woking I will give detailed steps on getting it woking using HYPER -V and remote FX.

it would probably work but really slow.... you need xen or even better KVM for vga passthrough...
(windows sucks)

With your pc you could run 2-3 vm-s with gpu for each :) NOT on WINDOWS host though :)

I am running streams from a KVM (linux kernel virtualization) server

with a amd 280x passed through using the new, relatively, VFIO features of the kernel.

I think with ESXi and XEN it could also work as both can passtrhough a video card but I read here[1] that HyperV does not support it (yet).

I would believe you if I had read of another person having success.

Here is the proof that it can work. I guess I need to get some pointers from blogger below. I figured there would be alot more people here using Hyper-V and Remote FX to keep things in the back ground on servers.

I have had a setback. The remoteFX feature only works when the host virtual machine is either Windows 7 or 8 enterprise. But fear not. I WILL MAKE IT WORK. It will be tomorrow though with work and all.
yeah u will make it work with 50% native performance :)

I have acquired both versions of enterprise. Using Windows 7 version yelds directx 9 only. Windows 8 directx 11. Still working on it. I have an Windows 7 enterprise VM running. Still working on config.
