AMD VCE 1.0 vs VCE 2.0
I'd like to buy a new video card that supports hardware encoding. I was looking at an R9 280X but it only supports VCE 1.0. For VCE 2.0 I would need a 260/260X (too slow compared to what I have now) or a 290/290X (too much $). Does Steam use any features of VCE 2.0 and is there a noticeable difference between 1.0 and 2.0?

How about the new R9 285? It has the newest Hardware (GCN 3.0). Performance is mostly the same as the 280 while consuming a lot less power.

Wue, are you sure, that it supports GCN 3.0? AFAIK the current version of GCN is 1.2. Or did you mean VCE 3.0?
