[solution] Stream is only 720p while host renders 1080p

I had the strange problem, that some games (for example Farming Simulator 15) wont stream in 1080p despite the source rendering in 1080p. All I got was a 720p stream.

Since I didn't find a solution for my problem, I want to share my solution here hoping it will help someone having the same issue.

Solution: (Windows 8.1)
On the host-machine my magnification was set to 150% in the system control panel. I liked it that way because things were easier to read on the TV-screen. However this setting caused Steam In-Home-Streaming to only stream 720p for some games. Setting it to 100% solved it.

It seems it's not a bug in In-Home-Streaming in particular, because Skyrim wont let me increase the resolution beyond 720p either. That's why I didn't post it in the "Bug Reports" section.

I realize this is a 6.5-year-old post, but thank you for posting your solution. I had the exact same issue with a 4K display set to 300% not allowing anything over 720p. Changed it to 100% and everything's fixed.

is it set to native or 1080p
