Nvidia GeForce GT 730 as client GPU - capable of running all games?
Hi, does anyone have any experience using a GeForce GT 730 as a client GPU? I'm looking for the cheapest way to run a host, but without any compromise on stream quality.

Specifically, I'm looking at this as an easy option:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LLGJGI4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1EGM8TAJPR9M&coliid=I3L5TYXLWORAV7

Would this work?

Host is GTX 770, i5.

Thanks!

There are several versions of this card: http://www.nvidia.de/object/geforce-gt-730-de.html#pdpContent=2 . The card in above PC is a rebranded Fermi card = GT430. I doubt you´ll be happy with any of those, but in theory, all are capable of decoding stream. Don´t expect too much and high resolution.

Considering the rest of the system, LGA775 Core Duo processor and DDR2 RAM, I´d rather not buy it. In my opinion, this is good for Solitaire or Minesweeper, but not much more.

On the other hand, that device even has LPT interface... very rare. ;)

Thank you, that's really helpful - I wouldn't have known that that was an equivalent to a GT430. Glad I came on here to check. I'll go back to putting my own machine together.

What do you reckon the minimum level Nvidia card is that I could get away with for my client? (Still looking to stream top-end games)

Would any of the below work?

Thanks again

I have a 730 and it works amazingly on my client. Streaming from a GTX 980 over a wired network.

I actually had a 720 before this that also worked really well, but had some problems when I powered off the computer (no signal when I resumed, took X amount of restarts to start working again). I've had much better results with Nvidia cards, for whatever reason, as my AMD 6450 that was in the computer just to give it an HDMI out dropped frames, and the R7 250 (which is theoretically the most powerful of the bunch) also seemed to lose frames.

Can't comment on the pre-built computer you have linked, but the GT 730 itself is a very capable card for Steam streaming purposes. I have a passively cooled one from Amazon UK and it doesn't even get warm.

I can stream to my ThinkPad T410 running a NVidia NVS 3100M, which is much older and slower than a GT 730. I can stream over Wireless (5GHz/N) from my HTPC with a GTX 970 at 1080p/60fps in my bedroom. You should have no problem with a GT 730. It even worked perfectly streaming to my work Dell XPS 13, which only has integrated Intel (Haswell) graphics.
