Remote play not detecting friend's wired PS5 controller

It detects their keyboard and mouse, but i get nothing but the yellow '!' circle for their controller. It's a freshly reset controller plugged directly into their PC

on host and client, make sure ps controller is enabled
steam -> settings -> controller -> ps controller support = enabled

also when you go there, try and calibrate the controller to make sure that all is ok

Thanks, we toggled ps support off then on and the calibration seems to be working well enough. it's odd because the controller will work locally on their computer as usual in all cases, but once we try to stream the inputs to my PC (steam remote play), my PC doesn't recognize their controller

I have another friend with the same ps5 controller (also wired directly to the PC) and their seems to work just fine
