Streaming over very fast internet
Say someone has Google Fiber, or some sort of very high speed internet connection which +1 gigabit. Could streaming then be done over the internet?

Seeing how you can scale back the bandwidth usage all the way down to 3Mbps, I'd say probably as little as 5 to 10 Mbps upload connection on the hosting side and about that much on the receiving client download connection would be enough. People here have already reported success streaming over the Internet via VPN.

Google Fiber would be more than enough.

oh that would be nice! sadly upload speeds here are crap. 2mb :/

It works with Hamachi, but no matter how fast your connection, you're still at the mercy of how many server hops there are between you and the host. It might be fine within 10 miles, but no further. It causes too much latency.

It's not the internet speed you have to worry about, it's the latency.

It's both. At least the latency problem can be mitigated by playing games where this is less of an issue (no fast reactions required). But even with the best latency you won't have any fun playing something at 5 FPS on tiny resolution.

30-50 Mbp/s upload should be ok for 720p/1080p with at least 30 FPS.

It depends on how you setup the IHS bandwidth settings... if you leave bandwidth at like unlimited or automatic then yeah you would need a 30-40 Mbps upload connection. If you crank it all the way down to 3 Mbps, then probably 5-10 Mbps upload will work.

As far as latency goes that is certainly something to consider. You won't be streaming via a Satellite internet connection on the host side thats for sure. However, I don't necessarily agree that it has to be within 10 miles like one of the posters said. I mean look at OnLive's service--they claim that you can be up-to 1,000 miles away from their server farms and still have a good experience with a low-latency broadband connection.

I did try it with teamviwers vpn. I also use splashtop for remote gaming for games like xcom.
