mouse and keyboard not working

I can launch a game fine but my mouse and keyboard presses do nothing. The mouse cursor appears on the screen and you can see it moving but that's it. The game doesn't respond to any keyboard presses or mouse clicks,

you just have a ♥♥♥ up key bord and mouse i have a key bord and some times i cant press W X 2 S

OK I had a bunch of problems with this issue. Turns out, the game I was running was executing as administrator and steam was running as the local user. So. Solution - when you startup steam on the CLIENT computer (the one the game runs on), make sure you start it as ADMINISTRATOR.

It seems like if Steam isn't administrator, but the game runs as admin, then steam won't pass through the commands!

See if that works.

Been trying to diagnose and solve this problem and an additional streaming problem for 2 days. You just solved it for me Zen! Thank you!!

Incidentally, it worked trying to stream from a Win 10 PC to a Mac Pro.

As previously stated, "running this application as an administrator" solves the entire problem. Do make sure to start the game client as an admin too: right click the game client, go to "property," select "compatibility," and then check the box next to "always run the program as an administrator."

Run as administrator - Mouse in Rust not work.
Mouse not working when run game Rust.

Had similar issue with Starbound (stable). Running the host Steam as admin fixed the issue for me.

if the host machine has a controller plugged in, the client machine keyboard and mouse might not function. Unplug from the host machine and plug it into the client.

Is there a fix for this. Running as administrator didn't do anything for me either.

im experiencing the same thing, but on all games even non steam games not even alt+f4 works, for example in tf2 the new item flashes so its not frozen. plus when i hover over the featured market it shows the two arrows but nothing else works. canthover over anything or click anything

Just posting for you guys to know,
Having another mouse and kbrd in my streaming server PC and starting Steam on server PC solved the issue for me. Now Im able to controll the games using my laptop connected mouse and kbrd.
