I also see no reason why someone couldn't build a ~$100 x86 Steam Machine, built to run SteamOS proper, and only intended for streaming and media playback. You take something like an EEE PC, remove the monitor, keyboard, and touch pad, put the free SteamOS on it instead of Windows, and you've got about $100 worth of computer that could easily handle streaming. Put that in a small box intended to go in a media center / near the TV, and you're good to go.
Roku even has an app for iTunes and Android[play.google.com] which works really well through the WiFi. (Except for that screen rotate!)
Just Krazy Glue your smartphone to the empty space on the new Steam Controller prototype and you are really good to go!
GREAT IDEA!
Thanks to you, I actually just realized that my old netbook running LMDE can drive a 37" 1080p monitor, down in the basement, via VGA cable! (Can ANYONE'S iPad do that???!!!)
Never woulda' thunk it!
Of course, everything "LOOKED" great, but aside from the fact that it is a GDMF netbook, the network lag + wireless controller is enough to get you killed in Flower.
Time for powerlines!!! And maybe a nice, unassuming Logitech wired.
Post them in a new thread specific to the Gigabyte Brix. That might be better. There's even a SteamOS subgroup for it: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions
Many people are very interested the Brix and building Intel NUCs, especially for In-Home Streaming: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/homestream/discussions/0/540732347355428411/
I think this thread is a little off topic for those.
