Basically, instead of trying to add an app to steam via the "Non-steam game shortcut" method, I just launch a game that has a launcher that shows up first... In my example, Borderlands 2.
When I launch that, it has the launcher come up, where I can choose play, config, or whatever, before it actually launches the full game. On that screen I mute the launcher's music, then click the minimize button... that takes me to a mirror image of my desktop. From there, I can launch anything or run anything I want and it runs fine.. You should be able to launch GW2 using this method, no problem. You will probably need to have it set up as Windowed Borderless, as Fullscreen gave me a pure white screen on the receiving end.
That said, the performance took a hit slightly.. BF4 was a bit choppy, whereas Borderlands 2 would be silky smooth.. But something like GW2 should definitely still be playable using a technique like this..
I'll probably throw DragonAge 2 at it soon and see how that goes...
edit: Hooked linux client up to gigabit. SWTOR runs smooth as silk. Loving this streaming.
The only problem I had was trying to close the stream down completely from 2nd PC - the game closed fine, but I couldn't close the Origin client locally so was unable to stream further games until I closed it locally at the host machine. Other than that, all was ok.
If it'll stream nicely from a PC downstairs, that's going to be the better solution.
The problem I'm having its that I can't seem to disable the steam overlay. When I start the game it just sits there on a black screen with the steam overlay message. I have it disabled on both machines as well.
Don't know how to solve this??
