One upstairs next to the combi modem/router box, one downstairs in the living room. That goes into a Belkin Wireless N+ router, which throws the WiFi signal up into the bedroom, across the living room and into the kitchen... where a D-Link DIR-615 with DD-WRT sits to repeat the WiFi in the kitchen and out into the back garden.
Had no extra latency at all with this setup in online games, and in fact it works better than taking my laptop into the same room as my Streaming host machine and using the WiFi from the crappy modem/router combi.
Host Computer:
Intel i7-4770
NVIDIA GTX 770
16GB RAM
Monitor = 1920x1080
Client Computer:
Intel i5-3427U
Intel HD Graphics 4000
4GB RAM
Screen = 1440x900
Games I have tested are Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, PAYDAY 2, and Titanfall (not the beta)
Results:
All the games provided very nice results. The games were able to keep at a steady 60 frames per second. However I noticed a little input lag when the resolution was at 1440x900. Turning it down to 1280x800, it felt as though that there wasn't any input lag at all! It's very amazing. I am able to play games anywhere around my house now as long as there is a plugpoint nearby.
I've tested streaming with; Divekick, Dead Island Riptide, Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, Scarygirl, Sleeping Dog, LIMBO, and The Last Remnant. Each with over an hour of gameplay and saw NO real probably. Latency never went above with 1.9 ms which is okay for me, even when playing a fast pace game like SF4 I could play as usual.
I plan on trying out some quick twitching FPS to see if it's playable and how well, but at this point I see no real issue.
I use a belkin powerline that gives my server computer FULL speeds of my internet verses my wifi in which I lose some speeds but nothing dramatic. I've had experiences with ONE other powerline from Trendnet (TPL-3033), and it was a good one until a couple of months later when I assume something malfunction within the unit (overheating) and I could only get 1-5 mbps.
Hope this helps, asks any questions. I really want steam in-home streaming to be a complete success!
i5 3570k
12 GB DDR3 RAM
AMD 7950
Monitor is running 1920x1080
Client Computer
i5 "something"
6GB DDR3 RAM
Intel HD4000
Monitor natively 1360x720 but I push it to 1920x1080 because I connect it to my TV which is 1920x1080
My current situation:
(Server) Computers -> Network Switch 1 -> Network Switch 2 -> Powerline Adapter -> 20/25m of Powerline -> Adapter -> Network Switch 3 -> Router -> Wifi to Windows 8.1 Tablet.
And yes. That worked like a charm. I was playing Call of Juarez Gunslinger without nothing any latency input at all.
Another note for powerline is to try and ensure it isn't plugged into a surge protector or adapter/extension cable as this may cause some minor interference lowering your ping.
Latency input of around 6 - 8ms, display 80ms and ping 26ms on Injustice.
Did get some stuttering on some levels though which is a bit annoying but otherwise input felt very responsive.
