Experiences with Powerline networks?
Has anyone given Powerline networks a try yet for streaming?

I went and bought a highly rated Powerline network pair (ZyXEL PLA4215 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006L6X7PM/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) which was delivered yesterday, the same day I got my beta invite.

My living room has quite a few obstacles between it and my computer room, which is on the second floor, so I opted out of running cat6 myself. The house is a year old, so the electrical wiring should be great.

I'm noticing, using the adapter's monitoring software, that when I have my adapters on different floors (different circuits), I get latency around 1-3ms (reasonable) but get a total bandwidth throughout between 50mbps and 70mbps. When I connect the adapters on the same floor, but different rooms, I get closer to 200mbps. This seems to dramatically affect the framerate while streaming. 15fps while on different circuits, rock solid 30fps when on the same.

I am not entirely sure if I just don't have the greatest powerline adapters, or if this is to be expected.

Got a couple of Belkin ones in my house. I don't remember the specific model, but they're 1gbps compatible.

One upstairs next to the combi modem/router box, one downstairs in the living room. That goes into a Belkin Wireless N+ router, which throws the WiFi signal up into the bedroom, across the living room and into the kitchen... where a D-Link DIR-615 with DD-WRT sits to repeat the WiFi in the kitchen and out into the back garden.

Had no extra latency at all with this setup in online games, and in fact it works better than taking my laptop into the same room as my Streaming host machine and using the WiFi from the crappy modem/router combi.

I have a very complicated network. So my host computer is connected via Ethernet to a router, this router is acting as a bridge. This router is then connected to the main router, which is an ASUS RT-N66U. Afterwards, an Ethernet port goes out into a powerline network (model: Aztech Homeplug AV2 - 600mbps), connected to a MacBook Air using the USB to Ethernet Adapter.

Host Computer:
Intel i7-4770
NVIDIA GTX 770
16GB RAM
Monitor = 1920x1080

Client Computer:
Intel i5-3427U
Intel HD Graphics 4000
4GB RAM
Screen = 1440x900

Games I have tested are Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, PAYDAY 2, and Titanfall (not the beta)

Results:
All the games provided very nice results. The games were able to keep at a steady 60 frames per second. However I noticed a little input lag when the resolution was at 1440x900. Turning it down to 1280x800, it felt as though that there wasn't any input lag at all! It's very amazing. I am able to play games anywhere around my house now as long as there is a plugpoint nearby.

I have a a router/modem upstairs and live downstair so I use a powerline to attach a second router to fill out dead zones and also give my gaming computer (server) a direct connection. I tried using the wifi from the secondary router which sits approximately 8 feet away from my laptop (client) and the performance was flawless. Most of the time I get between 50-60 FPS occasionally dipping to 40 but never lower. I can only assume that attaching an ethernet to my secondary router that is connected to the powerline directly to my client will give it an even better performance.

I've tested streaming with; Divekick, Dead Island Riptide, Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, Scarygirl, Sleeping Dog, LIMBO, and The Last Remnant. Each with over an hour of gameplay and saw NO real probably. Latency never went above with 1.9 ms which is okay for me, even when playing a fast pace game like SF4 I could play as usual.

I plan on trying out some quick twitching FPS to see if it's playable and how well, but at this point I see no real issue.

I use a belkin powerline that gives my server computer FULL speeds of my internet verses my wifi in which I lose some speeds but nothing dramatic. I've had experiences with ONE other powerline from Trendnet (TPL-3033), and it was a good one until a couple of months later when I assume something malfunction within the unit (overheating) and I could only get 1-5 mbps.

Hope this helps, asks any questions. I really want steam in-home streaming to be a complete success!

Server computer

i5 3570k
12 GB DDR3 RAM
AMD 7950
Monitor is running 1920x1080

Client Computer
i5 "something"
6GB DDR3 RAM
Intel HD4000
Monitor natively 1360x720 but I push it to 1920x1080 because I connect it to my TV which is 1920x1080

I tried it the first time today and wow. I did not expect it to work this good.

My current situation:
(Server) Computers -> Network Switch 1 -> Network Switch 2 -> Powerline Adapter -> 20/25m of Powerline -> Adapter -> Network Switch 3 -> Router -> Wifi to Windows 8.1 Tablet.

And yes. That worked like a charm. I was playing Call of Juarez Gunslinger without nothing any latency input at all.

The real issue isn't framerate or resolution. It's latency. Like Wifi signals, powerline cables also have traffic. I get a lot of ping time from my host to client, but network speeds are 50mb/s between them. I get the best latency when my adaptors are on a lone socket, away from hubs, surge protecters, high powered equipment ect...

I am currently running a powerline on a newer house (the internal electrical circuits can be a big factor) and it runs great for me. I am currently finding the bottleneck to be down to using wifi. my Main PC is able to stream fine as long as my laptop/tablet (sony vaio duo 11) is plugged to the router with a LAN cable. As soon as I switch to the wifi I have to turn the resolution down to get reasonable frame rates and even then get giant lag spikes.

Another note for powerline is to try and ensure it isn't plugged into a surge protector or adapter/extension cable as this may cause some minor interference lowering your ping.

i've tried D LINK DHP-309 AV and worked very well even with v-sync enabled

I tried one a few weeks ago, could never get it to stream unless I connected the laptop to ethernet and then switched to wifi otherwise the host PC which was using the Powerline adapter wouldn't be able to communicate for the laptop. I posted a thread asking for help but never got any worthwhile help to be honest. But I've switched back to wifi anyways so it doesn't matter anymore.

I don't have a beta invite, but I use Zytec 500s and I have sub 2ms pings and can regularly get 250 Mbps (and way more consistant than wifi). My house has really terrible wiring. I'm wondering why people are having so many problems. I'm currently setting up my media room banking on steam stream working. Am I missing anything?

I just upgraded from a 200Mb Zyxel powerline kit to a 500Mb TrendNet kit. The latency in my network has gone from 22ms to 4ms. Far superior product.
Corum 2014 年 5 月 17 日 下午 4:53
I use Devolo DLAN 200's which rate at around 160mbit/s+ according to the cockpit software.

Latency input of around 6 - 8ms, display 80ms and ping 26ms on Injustice.

Did get some stuttering on some levels though which is a bit annoying but otherwise input felt very responsive.

I have a had Powelines a Belkin 200mbps and now a netgear 200mps - Both manage to push about 80-90 mbps thru my lines I put one in my basement and one Upstairs beside the extra pc for me its been identical to having a wired connection as far as use goes. Wifi never gives that type of strength for me unless i am on 5g, though both now work wonders.

Using TRENDnet TPL-307E

Very low latency and ping. I have been playing Tomb Raider Anniversary at 60 fps with no issues at all.
Your network, including "Very low latency and ping", have nothing to do with your "fps". Please don't post if you don't know what you're talking about...

The "D LINK DHP-309 AV" and a system/programs "v-sync" have nothing to do with each other. Please don't post if you don't know what you're talking about...
