Setting up a VPN for streaming

Hi guys, I am on a university network but I cannot see the desktop sitting in my room from other PCs across campus (notably my personal laptop). Is there an easy to follow guide for setting up a VPN on Windows 8.1 or is there an easy to use software to do so? Thanks!

I use OpenVPN (all UDP)

Streaming PC (Cabel)
OpenVPN (On pfsense (Router - LAN))
Internet (WAN - ISP 1 - coax-cabel (DOCSIS 3.0)) 40/20 mbit (upload side)
Internet (WAN - ISP 2 - Fiber) 60/60 mbit (download side)
Asus Router
Client PC (Cabel)

Over that i have packet loss from ~0,00%-1,50% when it run fine but some times there is a lag or to :)

Streaming Latency: ~11-12 ms input, ~33-43ms display
Ping time: ~15-18 ms
Packet loss: ~0,00-1,50% (plus lag ~15%) (1,00% frame loss)

Yep, OpenVPN has the best latency. Although not throuput but that is not what you are looking for here. Note that you would want a bridged VPN here.

I got gigabit throughput on my OpenVPN on pfsense whit:

DH Parameters Length: 4096 bits
Encryption algorithm: AES-256-CBC (256-bit)
Auth Digest Algorithm: SHA512 (512-bit)
Hardware Crypto: BSD cryptodev engine - RSA, DSA, DH, AES-128-CBC, AES-192-CBC, AES-256-CBC

It's rouning on a i5-2500k @4.0 GHz

can you eleborate on your openvpn setup? I tried using it but was getting crazy Packetloss. Zeroteir worked for me on the otherhand. I am just trying to see which one works best, and I obviously setup openvpn wrong. SOmeone also mentioned openvpn is not designed for major thoroughput can you comment on that?

I use pfsense for openvpn and it is rouning on a i5 2500k @4,00 GHz and 16 GB ram for just one user whit 5 pc's, so thats over kill..

så what is major thoroughput is it all over 250 mbit or is it 1 gbit you mean?.. no load and fast hardware then you have high thoroughput :)

rember to have a fast client to.

hey Iam trying to create just ANY connection so I could play games streamed from my PC at home to my laptop at work or my GFs place ... could you please help me ? Ive tried few things but I got only issues with that ... one time it finally works, second day it wont connect to VPN ... I really got headache already from this
