Streaming to Mac Using PS3 Controller
I found out recently that I could use a PS3 controller with my Mac over bluetooth since drivers are built into OSX, and so I have been trying to use this to play my windows games around the house.

However, I find that using a controller only seems to work with games that are made to work on Mac anyway... if I use it with a Windows only game it just doesn't pick up the controller at all.

Have other people noticed this, or is it just me? Is it an expected or intentional thing? Is it something that is expected to be fixed later?

Is your client a Mac, though?

My point is the games don't pick up the controller on Mac... keyboard and touchpad commands from the Mac work fine.

No problems here. I have a mac client with a Dualshock 3 (bluetooth) and it works fine with any controller compatible game :)

Not sure what your problem is ?

It does work for me, but ONLY when playing games available on OSX. Have you tried streaming a game to your Mac that is not available for OSX? I have tried streaming Dishonored and Skyrim (both Windows only) to my Mac and neither one accepts the input from the DS3.

Conversely, if I stream a game that IS available on OSX to my Mac, such as Bioshock Infinite, it works perfectly fine.

I tried Batman Arkham Origins (Windows only) and it works fine :)

Same. I played Watch_Dogs on a Mac Mini with a DS3 no problem. Changed the Mac out with a NUC, and since Windows has horrible support for DS3, third-party or not, I've ordered a 5m USB extention.

I guess it's just me, then. :(

Or perhaps it's nothing to do with it being Windows only but just some games don't work...

It's it a legit ds3 ? Fake or 3rd party have been terrible for me in the past. I use a dual shock 4 on either my host or client with no issues via bluetooth , previous used ds3 with no issues .

Old client was a Mac mini, new client is a gigabyte brix xm12 running window 8

It is a legit PS3 controller... but if DS3 means it has rumble then it isn't a DS3... all it says on it is SIXAXIS.

Siaxis is the early controllers that's shipped with ps3s before sony sorted out a legal battle to allow them to re introduce the rumble feature.

It should work fine.

I had a fake ds controller once, i didn't know it was fake until I tried to use blutrol for iPad & the reason it wouldn't pair was due to the fake ness

Its working great for me. I'm streaming from a central windows machine to my iMac as client. In fact I even see an improvement in some games. An example - dead space. With Xbox controllers directly connected to the windows machine I have horrendous 'dead zone' However when playing exactly the same game streamed to my mac connected to ps3 controllers, the game is perfect!

Has anybody tried it with the specific games I mentioned?

Dishonored and/or Skyrim?

Not those in particular - but DmC, DeadSpace 1 & 2 all windows only titles I think

I have similar issue with Metal Gear Ground Zeroes. Trying to stream from windows computer to Macbook aIr connected to TV. Everything works fine, but it seems that game doesn't recognize ps3 controller. I can move selections in big picture menu, but controls in the game won't work.
