You also may want to overclock the pi if you want to do this. But if this won't work, you can always have a go with the other Raspberry Pi projects.
I got one myself, sometimes it causes a little bit of trouble, but i am always happy with it because of the cool things it can still do for about 30 euro's.
Btw, thanks for the idea. Didn't think about it yet.
By 'it' do you mean the streaming? I thought that was part of the point of it?
Good idea!
Really? I thought the Pi was optimised to play full HD video? Why do I need the OC?
That's cool, I'll just install a lightweight linux distro (or use one of the Pi optimised ones?).
But what's BPM (sorry if that's a noobie question), and why would you need more than what a Pi offers to do nothing but stream?
I don't suppose you wanna do me a favour and try streaming to the Pi from a Windows machine, and telling me about your experience?
Why not, i am actually gonna try it for you now.
Maybe wait for a tiny bit, and then i can tell you my experience.
Please tell me all about your set up as well! (Eg, What model Pi you where using, what accessories where you using (IE, case, SD card, Power supply, Ethernet cable or WIFI adapter etc...), what OS you where using Etc...
Limelight is only for Nvidia, so I won't be able to use it any way :'(
Thanks mate.
I'm hoping that when SteamOS comes out, the community will build and compile a Pi optimised version. I guess I won't be buying a Pi for now...
However, I haven't tested but am most certainly going to this weekend.
For info:
I'll be using a model B Raspberry Pi with standard clocking as well as various different overclocking settings. I'll use Class 10 SD cards(8GB).
I'll try it via it's own internal NIC as well as a USB W/LAN.
I'll be using the internal HDMI port(1080p on a Sony 40") as well as punching it using an AOC USB powered 16" display.
I'll add a Targus 4x USB HUB and the iPad 2xUSB charger that comes with the 1.5amp and 2.1amp USB female ports. I'll power the Pi with the 1.5amp slot into miniUSB and the 2.1amp I'll use for the power portion of the AOC USB display.
I somehow doubt that it'll be able to handle but I'm game!
Will post findings after the weekend.
How? I've done some research and it looks like steam can't run on the RPis architecture...
Thanks for offering to post the results of your tests here and for your info!
EDIT: if nothing works out, it looks like for the mean time it may be worth buying a $200 chromebox and installing a another Linux distro on it. Or even some other NUC or whatever.

There's quite a lot of stuff that shouldn't run on the ARM architecture but with a little fiddle and patience you can make it so. That doesn't mean it's always stable, though.
I'm not sure yet, I haven't tried it. After this weekend I'll have more direction and feedback.
Yup!
*puts on cape*
It's time to get our geek on!
