What is the point of this?
Hi, i just don't get the point of this. You need to have 2 PC, one that is running the game and the other that is connected to the TV with HDMI cable. Wtf, i won't buy a new computer just to play some of my steam games on TV. What is the little device that they show on the Steam Streaming Page, is it kinda like a Xbox or something. Anyway, have any idea how can i play steam games on my tv without having 2 pc?

Thank you. This is seriously the best thing to come on Steam since its inception.

Not hard to grasp the concept
from steam op thread

This can enable playing games on systems that would not traditionally be able to run those games. For example, a Windows game could be streamed to a laptop in bed, or to a Steam Machine running Linux in the living room.

The point is this, and I'll be as simple as possible. Say your desktop has 2 terabytes of HD space, fill that space with games, random ass pic and movie downloads, songs, other software non related to games, on top of that add in 6-20 GB full fledged games, and before you know it you have 700 GB worth of laggy ass slow your comp down empty HD space, and if you don't have 2TB and only 1 you're looking at leaving most of your library off of your machine in favor of precious HD space.

Solution? Have 1 Box/PC running the best gaming specs possible with a big ass 2TB hard drive disc, with nothing but 100% no fluff no extra BS softwares worth of games, and games only. Network that ♥♥♥♥♥, jump on your random laptop, or your personal desktop that you ♥♥♥♥ the HD space up with porn with, or your tablet, and viola, you can enjoy your games at full quality, while jerkin it to your loads of gigabit space of porn, while also surfing the net, while also looking at those dumb ass memes you have taking up file space, while also having your fruity loops "I make BEETS" lookin ass, all at the same time without slowing down the laptop, or desktop, or tablet you're on with those 20GB ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ memory leak havin ass games.

Not only that...but WHEN someone makes a little chromecast type device that can run SteamOS or Linux and have it plugged into ANY TV with a very small footprint...

Honestly, this is the only thing this whole set up/gimmick is missing. If they come out with the steam boxes and don't include something like this their whole plan is f'd

Thank you Valve. It's all so much clearer now..

We llike our linux, and a bit of android, and <sigh> a Mac <is pretty /eviously, cool too...>.
The steam box was perplexing, but suggested exactly this. Can't have eggs in one basket. We love our affordable (priced-sanely) Windows behemoths, the "Gamingg d'Rigg`l"... Yet, the incescent day-to-day bickering grew tiresome when in the midst of all of these devices.. Now, thank you Valve, this seems to a stride towards a nice synergy (at last). Good move for all..

Have an old rig hooked up to my TV in the living room for listening to music and watching TV shows.. playing any games on it is annoying because the fans get so loud. Just played Witcher 2 from my gaming rig in my home office streamed to the junk machine in the living room.. no problem.. FREAKING BRILLIANT!!

Well done Valve, well done. Leading the way again.

Haters gonna hate. If you don't like the option, don't use it. You've probably never used Big Picture on a BIG TV either. Just go back to DOTA and let the rest of us enjoy what we have been given.. FOR FREE.

It still needs some work. But the potential is there.

Works great for people who dislike nosiy system, especially in an otherwise silent room.
Why should you get a better silent cooling solution?, when the best way to reduce noise is to get the source of the noise out of the room.

And here I am playing in a quiet room on a laptop with low fan noise and SSD.

It all happens in milliseconds. With good hardware and a fast home network, you’ll forget the game is running remotely.

This is really good for me streaming games for my son to play on the laptop as the games he likes struggle to play on the laptop but we have a good gaming PC. I could not have afforded another PC just now so this is brilliant. Thanks Valve.

A stable network connection is key. Try playing around with the streaming settings, changing the bandwidth allocation and enabling/disabling hardware encoding/decoding on both the host and client.

it's totally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless.

This update is Valve in a nutshell. I wonder how much money they spent developing this.
Meanwhile simple things don't work and the store is a travesty.

I would agree, for advanced users, this is pretty useless.

But having experienced Valve releases in the past, this is probably just an experimental stepping stone to something bigger on the horizon.

I already have a second PC connected to my television for multimedia and this service is perfect. :) Sitting at my PC is uncomfortable sometimes and it'd be awkward to set up my gaming PC to the television.

Lowering the resolution of the game on host also helps.
