No sound when streaming Vampire Survivors and other similar games

I've been playing Vampire Survivors or Brotato and other such remote games with a friend forever. For some time now he has no sound when he enters my streaming, he can play normally, everything works, only there is no sound, while with me normally sounds are there and all settings checked and hints from the help forum.

This is a known issue that started appearing in November and appears to have been caused by a Windows update. Valve support told me they would not attempt to troubleshoot this and closed my ticket, so unfortunately it may be broken indefinitely :(

windows may have reverted back to its generic drivers

get the correct ones from the mobo mfg
and disable all unused audio devices

remote play together should still work, as steam uses windows mixer to grab sound

check mixer volumes, make sure steam client/bootstrapper volume is maxed, on host and client

all these steps have already been checked and still nothing
