FPS Locked at 24 FPS
My laptop which I am using as the client currently is capped at a maximum of 24 FPS and while in game shows a maximum of 23.75 FPS while playing, I have looked at other discussions which say there is either a setting to change your fps cap in steam or its my TV. i cannot find the setting in steam and I also know it is not my tv as i can run games locally at 60Hz. I cannot figure out what the problem is. I am streaming over a 100mb ethernet connection and it has streamed perfectly when i used my work laptop as a tester, it was then able to hit 60 fps.

Here is an image of the steam overlay while streaming showing that it is indeed capped at this low framerate for some unknown reason: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6CbXvNBvU3BOXhDNFQ0bHFCUU0/view?usp=sharing

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Issue is the d3d bandwidth limit. If you dont want to mess with config files then set bandwidth limit to 30mbps on client (dont need to change host)

Currently auto or recommended on steam client machines results in bandwidth capping at 10mbps. Editing a specific config file or changing the bandwidth limit in steam client can then make more bandwidth available.

However games where d3d9 encoders are used will still cap at 25 to 30fps eg dirt 2.

thanks for the reply,
my bandwidth is already set to 30mbps, on the photo in the link it shows as 30000kbps, any ideas what else i can do?

Also the games i have been trying aren't d3d9, (fallout 4 and rocket league) so i've ruled that out too.

Where abouts did you set to 30mbps ? as the video only shows 7409 which suggests its the 10mbps bug (sorry should mention it is a current bug in bandwidth estimation)

Are you using windows or steam link ? if its steam link theres a few threads in here mentioning the extra hoops you need to go through on the client. Ill try to find the one i was just reading.

sorry for the late reply, haven't been back to check lately,
But I am using windows and i haven't heard anything about this 10mbps bug. but like the image shows, it appears to lock the stream at this framerate, i know its capable of more because i've had success with other computers in the house, but obviously the one i'd like to use is my living room one which has this issue.

anymore insight you have would be greatly appreciated or how to get around this 10mbps bug or a big help would be if you know where i can find these config files and i can go have a snoop around and see if theres anything i can change myself.

thanks again in advance.

Does your TV have a function to display the resolution and refresh rate for the HDMI connection that you are using? Try checking the value when you are streaming and when you are just in the desktop.

okay i've resolved the issue, turns out that in the intel HD graphics control panel the refresh rate was set to 59Hz, i changed it to 60p Hz and the framerate was no longer capped at 24fps. guess in home streaming doesnt like other refresh rates. thanks for all the help though.
