Video latency with Steam Link?
So I got my Steam Link yesterday, but I'm having a bit of an issue with latency. I've been testing out Rocket League, and there is a noticeable latency when I move or jump.

When I look at my desktop with the steam controller, there is no latency at all, every command is instant, but on my TV it's lagging behind what my PC display is.

I'm assuming this is video lag? I tried doing the "Display statistics" but all it shows me is my resolution and FPS on the bottom left. I don't know how to display more information.

Everything is running 1920x1080, I have an i7 with a GTX770 if that helps.

EDIT: More info

I managed to gather more info.

Capture 1920x1080 @ 59.83
Streaming Latency: 0.38MS Input, 26.79MS Display
Ping time. 0.72ms
Incoming bitrate 13246 kbits/s video 2048 bbits/s
Outgoing Bitrate: 211 kbits/s
Estimated bandwidth 75Mbs
Packet loss 0

Try turning on then turning off shadowplay under geforce experience on the host. Also make sure the host is wired.

Thanks Bristol,

The host and client are both wired to a gigabit network. I don't even have GeForce experience installed. (That's the only nVidia component I didn't install)

26.79MS Display latency is actually pretty good. I don't think you should expect it to be 1:1 as far as compared to your PC for obvious reasons (the extra work to compress send and decompress the video) but in my experience so far most games are very playable with as much as 30-40MS.

Did you switch the TV to Gaming / PC mode?
DuckSoup Nov 11, 2015 @ 1:11pm
I do have the TV in Game mode, but no difference with that.

How do others play Rocket League then? I feel like the input lag is just too much to really be able to play the game well. I'm wondering what else might be causing it?

Try using 720p at the client instead of 1080p and see what happens

I had a very similar issue, I've placed the client in fast stream mode and reduced the client res to 720p and it's much better...I still get random freezes
Thnx for the switch TV to "game mode" suggestion this totally should be noted on the FAQ and advertised with the Steam Link manual since it totally changed my game experience with the device.... didnt know TVs generate so much latency these days. Games were feeling kinda sluggish before.
+1
