Steam Link FPS drops... how?
http://imgur.com/9ogw4PH

I have 0% packet loss and the ping is ungodly low. Latency is extremely low. On my remote PC, I'm getting a rock solid 60 fps with no drops at all on Fallout 4. The image quality on the Link is about as good as it can be for the little device, no complaints there.

When I'm around cities or inside buildings sometimes, the fps will drop to high 40s to low 50s. I'd be okay with mid to upper 50s honestly. When it's not dropping fps, it'll hover between 56-60 fps. I'm just wondering with such a low ping and latency, how is my framerate dropping on the link?

It's set to beautiful streaming, but even on low it's the same story. I have hardware encoding turned off on the host as it decreased streaming latency, but even on, the same story.

My specs: i5-4670k @ 4.4, GTX 780, 16gb RAM, Win 10 Pro. I'm hardwired to my router, no wi-fi. Everything is hardwired. I'm lost.

Been having the same issues with a similar setup. Dunno if it's just Fallout 4 or what, but other games seem to stream just fine.

The OP was using the software encoder that can have reduced FPS in areas where the CPU is used a lot by the game.
Have you tried the latest beta after making sure that Nvidia hardware encoder is enabled (if the encoder contains NVENC then it is working)?

We updated the client last night with a major performance improvement for open-world games, including Fallout 4. Would you be able to test again tonight after checking for client updates?

GTA V is not fixed. Low frame rates on win 10x. I was perfect with nvfbc.

Is GTA V running at 60fps on your host computer? There was previously a bug where NVFBC would report 60fps no matter what the actual frame rate was.

You may want to disable hardware acceleration and see if that gets you to 60fps - if you have eight or more CPU cores, software encoding is probably a better choice because the quality is higher.

Before, the experience was completely smooth so it should be working at solid 60fps on host. I will check anyway.

This game runs fine on my rig with win 7 but not on win 10 with game polled capture. Both 64 bits. I have a dual boot with the two OS installed.

I see 60 fps and suddenly it drops to 30-40 fps. Apparently is not game related because is the same scene rendered. I walk a little to check. I saw this behaviour with other open world games, like dying light or the witcher (I have not tested again this games) . That's why I have updated the last beta and though that it was fixed.

In general most of the games runs absolutely perfect like far cry 4...

Ok, it sounds specific to WIndows 10, that is something we can look into. Thanks for doing the testing across both operating systems!

I have tested dying light and installed fraps.

I have 60fps with vsync on and more than 100 fps with it off on host. Game polled is showing no more than 50 fps.

I have minimized big picture and now encoder is showing desktop nvfbc. (Or maybe it's because I Installed fraps ??)

Now it's showing 59-60 ihs overlay and game runs completely smooth.

If I disable hw encoding the problem is the same. Solid 60fps on host but capture it showing less than 60 fps with 3 threads. I have an i5 at 4,2 ghz. Wired. Not packet loss. Tested on beatiful and balanced. Nvidia gtx 970.

GTA V is running at solid 60fps on host but frame drops are worst. Perfect on desktop nvfbc + nvenc.

Hi Guys, the update has made my performance much worse. Portal 2 is unplayable. Subnautica can't refresh the game play fast enough render the environment (didn't have that issue before). This update has rendered my Link unusable. Please correct this!!!
Yup same here. Win10 user aswell.

Host pc can be churning out 100fps but game on steamlink can be sub 50fps and choppy as hell.
GTAV, pCars.

We're on the case, should have a fix published soon.
Nice. :)
At a guess its the issue thats been creeping in that despite 0 packet loss, you lose frames no matter what.
Melkon 2015年12月12日 7時27分
+1 Fallout 4 with NVENC is unplayable, stream dips below and stays at 30fps when host is having stable 30-45fps, we need a fix because currently the best solution is go to software encoding which is taking cpu time from the actuall game
