Remote play every so often extrem low fps on Radeon
I was using an Nvidia GTX 2700 Super and remote play worked great. This is all over 1gbit ethernet (PC and Apple TV are on ethernet) so no WiFi involved. Pings between devices are below 1ms the entire time for all the testing below.

I then upgraded to a radeon 7900 XTX (removed nvidia drivers fully first of course) and remote play is perfect for a few minutes and then the fps goes down to about 1 frame every 5 seconds on the apple tv using Steam Link remote play. It then clears up and plays perfect again. Another minute to 3 minutes later, the extreme low FPS happens again and then clears up. I tried a few games and the same result. On the PC screen, the game is refreshing just fine at high frame rate while the low FPS is happening streaming. Rebooted PC, apple TV, etc and no change. Tried restricting bandwith in the remote play app and PC steam program. No changes.

I then went back to my Nvidia GTX 2700 Super. No more frame rate problems with Remote Play. Plays perfectly for hours.

Anyone else experience this? I was very surprised that the Radeon vs Nvidia would make a difference. I did not expect drivers/video card to impact the behavior.

some of the amd gpus do not support hardware gpu encoding
it will need to use cpu encoding

if on lan, set steam streaming bandwidth to unlimited/beautiful

it may be some background task on the host interfering

That sounds like typical amd experience, things may or may not work with certain drivers. Yet people are surprised why nvidia is dominating the market.

if the psu is up to it, and the board has an extra pci-e x16 length slot, you can use both gpus, or a low end nvidia gpu for the encoding
or maybe if you have an intel cpu with igpu, you can enable that for hardware encoding
